Reunited and it feels so good! Itβs true β the reunions are the best stories in the world of animal sheltering, and to help more pets return to their homes, Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is participating in the nationwide Maddieβs Fund No Place Like Home Challenge.
In addition to encouraging pet owners to place a collar and ID tag on their pets, as well as keeping current photos of them for use in case they become lost, multiple initiatives have been put into place as WCRAS works to reunite pets with their families. The shelter has asked pet finders to become volunteer reuniters for 24 hours by using technologies like the cutting-edge facial recognition technology offered by Finding Rover and using the myriad social media platforms to help those found pets get back home to their families without the dog or cat ever stepping foot in the shelter.
The shelter also encourages microchips by offering free microchipping, thanks to a generous grant from the Petco Foundation, and microchip registration for pets located within the shelterβs jurisdiction (just $15 to chip a pet from outside the jurisdiction).
Small steps lead to big results! WCRAS has helped 51 pets return home in the month of March, and the number continues to climb with focused efforts to ensure that each petβs family is searched for through the use of every tool at our disposal.
The Maddieβs Fund No Place Like Home Challenge comes with a chance at $150,000 in grant prizes!
