Williamson County has announced details for their participation in National Prescription Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 24.
βDo you have unused and expired medications,β the county wrote on Facebook. βConsider dropping those off during National Prescription Take-Back Day for free and safe disposal.β
The event is from 10 AM to 2 PM and disposal locations are listed below:
Georgetown
- Legacy Hills Park Pavilion and Williamson County Sheriffβs Office.
Round Rock
- Round Rock Police Department
Cedar Park
- Cedar Park Police Department
Leander
- Leander Police Department

According to the official Take-Back Day website, the annual event is aimed at preventing drug addiction and overdose deaths.
βThe National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue,β according to the website. βAccording to the 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.β
