A local artistβs collection of Georgetown focused art is now on display at the Georgetown Public Library.
The Art with Heart collection began in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, as Rachel Hancock β facing more free time than sheβd had in a while β decided to pick up brushes and paints again.
βI studied art in college. I took a break from art for many many years,β Hancock told Hello Georgetown. βIn March of 2020, when the city shut down, my heart went out to all the local businesses located on the Georgetown square. I had to do something to help them! I painted over 50 paintings, sold over 1000 prints, and earned about $10,000 for the downtown businesses.β

Originally, Hancock would display new paintings in the collection on social media as she finished them, and now the full collection is on display through June 13 at the Georgetown Public Libraryβs first floor Cafe Gallery.
β I wanted to spread a bit of joy during a really tough time,β Hancock said. βOur social media newsfeeds were full of rotten content. I wanted my paintings to brighten up someoneβs day! Now that the entire collection is on display at the public library, you can enjoy the entire collection in one location!β
A reception is scheduled for Friday, June 11 from 4 PM β 6 PM. Hancock also said she is offering the prints for purchase again on her website, but only for a limited time. All profits will be donated to the Downtown Facade and Sign Grant Program.
