A local nonprofit is launching a new weekly community clean up effort and is inviting the public to join.
Korri Bindl, President of the Georgetown based nonprofit Activist Effect, told Hello Georgetown the idea came after she and cofounder, CEO and Director of Operations Jonathan Klein were on a walk.
βI have always been an active volunteer, and an environmentalist and I love my home in Georgetown and the community that surrounds it,β Bindl told Hello Georgetown. βWe were on a walk one day and saw a lot of litter along the San Gabriel riverside, and it broke our hearts because it is such a beautiful trail otherwise. We knew we could not just ignore it, and we didnβt want to, and we believe that the people of Georgetown would feel the same and would want to come together to help.β
The community clean up will take place every Tuesday morning at 9 AM in Georgetown, Texas. Bindl said the organization will post the locations for the next clean ups two weeks before on Facebook.
Hand sanitizer, plant-based biodegradable gloves, and canvas bags for collecting trash will be provided. Volunteers should dress accordingly (hiking boots, hats, etc.) for the clean up location and wear sunscreen. Korri and Jonathan will be wearing masks, but masks arenβt required for volunteers. Social distancing is encouraged and everyone ages 4+ are welcome!
βWe hope to inspire others with this clean up, to show that it doesnβt take much to make a difference, all it takes is someone to volunteer a bit of their time thus creating a chain reaction among others to want to join the cause,β Bindl said. βWe have a saying for Activist Effectβ¦βto have an effect, you must fight for a cause,β and that is exactly what we will do!β
