The Georgetown Independent School District recently named new principals for two of its elementary school campuses. Carver Elementary School will be led by Tosha VanMetre and Meredith Gandy will take the helm at Ford Elementary School. Additionally, Purl Elementary School principal Denisse Baldwin will transition to a new role as Coordinator of Early Childhood/Title I with the district.
Tosha VanMetre
Tosha VanMetre previously served as assistant principal at Forbes Middle School. As assistant principal, she provided oversight and support of testing, instructional and intervention programs, and master scheduling. During this time, FMS became a Capturing Kidsβ Hearts Showcase School.
VanMetre has a Masterβs degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University and earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Arkansas State University. Before she joined GISD, she served as mathematics teacher, instructional coach and associate principal in Manor ISD.
Meredith Gandy
Meredith Gandy has served in GISD for 16 years, as a pre-k and kindergarten teacher, a math interventionist, and assistant principal. Since 2017, she has served as principal of Mitchell Elementary School.
Gandy earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a masterβs degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.
Denisse Baldwin
Denisse Baldwin served as principal of Annie Purl Elementary School since it opened in 2017. Under Baldwinβs leadership, Purlβs implemented a new dual language program, engaged in meaningful community partnerships, created professional learning pathways for ongoing adult education and engaged in cross-campus staff collaboration. Baldwin has 16 years of experience in public education.
In her new role as Coordinator of Early Childhood/Title I for GISD, Baldwin will collaborate with campus administrators to provide quality pre-kindergarten instruction for GISDβs youngest students by facilitating professional learning, coaching, curriculum alignment and student support. She will also work to enhance family engagement opportunities at campuses that receive Title I funding to enhance family engagement.
