9/27/2021 –Β Kilwins is officially open in Georgetown!
“I’m super excited that we’re opening today,” Amberly Kurkowski, co-owner of the Kilwins in Georgetown, told Hello Georgetown. “I can’t wait for everyone to come in and try all the products that we’ve been working so hard on this week.”
The opening day is also exciting for long-time Georgetown resident and co-owner Michelle Baran.
“We’ve always wanted to open something and bring more to the Square,” Michelle Baran told Hello Georgetown. “I’ve been here since 7th grade and went to college at Southwestern, and I wanted more to the community, to bring something to it.”
Located at 120 W 8th Street on the Downtown Georgetown Square, the store will be open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 8 PM, and Friday through Saturday from noon to 10 PM.

8/30/2021 –Β Kilwins is getting closer to opening!
Construction has begun on the new store which be located on the Square, and the store is expected to open end of September.
“I’m super excited to start sharing Kilwins with our community,” Amber Kurkowski told Hello Georgetown. “I think it’s really exciting that we’re bringing a fudge shop to the square. I’m excited to share all the different types of fudges we make in store and all the different chocolate dipped items we make, and also with our specialty, super premium ice cream.”
The store will feature a variety of locally made treats including fresh fudge and caramel corn.
“We actually make everything in store,” Kurkowski said. “So, you’ll see us paddling fudge, you’ll see us slicing it up. Potentially, if you come in when we’re making a loaf, you’ll get to try it out. It’ll be on the table. So, you get to try a nice warm, fresh slice of fudge, right off the table. We also make our own caramel corns, we make all the caramel that goes on the corn, and then we actually make the popcorn, as well, in store. So, we coat all that here in store…you’ll be seeing all those items being cooked as you come in the store to check it out.”

Kilwins Georgetown owners, Amber Kurkowski and Michelle Baran, are excited to bring a taste of Kilwins to Georgetownβs historic downtown square.
Amber and her husband were both in the Army, stationed at Fort Hood, when they fell in love with the area and decided to put down roots in Georgetown. Amber is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a former Military Police Captain, serving two tours of duty in Iraq. She and her husband have lived in Georgetown for 10 years and own a structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering firm. Amber is a member of the Rotary Club of Georgetown and on the board of directors for American Heritage Girls Troop 1045. She also runs a nonprofit equine sanctuary that takes in neglected and abused horses.
Growing up, Amber visited her grandparents in Michigan every summer and has fond memories of visiting Kilwins on Mackinac Island with them. She was always impressed with the quality and taste of Kilwins treats, so she decided to open her own store. She met her business partner, Michelle Baran, in the engineering world, working on several commercial projects together over the past few years. Amber had already committed to franchising with Kilwins when she discovered that Michelle also wanted to open a candy shop, so she suggested partnering up on the store. Once Amber introduced Michelle to Kilwins by visiting the San Antonio location, Michelle was sold on the idea, and all of the pieces fell into place.
Michelle has lived in Georgetown for 27 years and is part-owner of a civil engineering and development firm, focusing on the financial and marketing side of the business. She moved to Georgetown when she was in the 7th grade, and she met her (now) husband on the first day of school. She graduated from Georgetown High School and Southwestern University, so she has deep ties to the area. Michelle is involved with the local PTA and is a member of the Southwestern University Georgetown Alumni Committee. She has always had an affinity for chocolate, so she was interested in Kilwins right away.
Amber and Michelle are looking forward to introducing neighbors, friends, and tourists to Kilwins and serving the very best Confections and Ice Cream available. They invite the Georgetown community to visit the store in September to help them celebrate their store opening, sample some freshly-made Fudge, and try some of their favorite products, like Toasted Coconut Ice Cream, Turtle Fudge, and Caramel Apples. They hope youβll return throughout the year to treat your family & friends to the Kilwins experience!
Kilwins Heritage Chocolate assortments are made by Kilwins using Fair Trade, Kosher Chocolate and proprietary recipes. The store features an open kitchen where customers can view products being made fresh and offers a full assortment of Kilwins Heritage hand-crafted Chocolates, Gourmet Cake & Ice Cream, 32 flavors of Original Recipe Super Premium Ice Cream, and many other treats.”
