The City of Georgetown will offer two, special tree disposal services for Georgetown residents in the wake for Winter Storm Mara (Jan. 30-Feb. 2, 2023): A special curbside collection and an additional drop-off location.
These services are for storm-related tree debris only. No other materials (e.g., appliances, sheetrock, etc.) will be accepted.
βI am proud of the tireless work from our utilities and public works crews βbefore, during, and after this storm hit,β City Manager David Morgan said. βThe damage to trees from Winter Storm Mara was extensive. We are setting up these additional disposal services, because we know folks throughout Georgetown have more debris than they can deal with on their own. We wanted to start the curbside pickup later this month to ensure everyone in the city has an opportunity to get their debris to the curb.β
These complimentary services will be funded by the Cityβs general fund, so only City of Georgetown residents, who pay Georgetown property taxes, are eligible for this service. Georgetown city limits are denoted by the light orange area on this interactive map.
Trees impeding the roadway, sidewalks, and electric lines should be reported to customercare@georgetown.org. The City is not responsible for trees in the rights of way.
Special curbside collection
A special curbside collection of tree limbs for city residents will start Feb. 27. If a resident does not place storm-related tree debris on their curb by Feb. 26, the City cannot guarantee pickup.
There is no special fee assessed to city residents for this limb collection.
The Cityβs contractor will start pickup Feb. 27 in seven zones (City Council districts) simultaneously and will work from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday until they have gone through the entire city. Once a street is finished, crews will not return. An estimate for how long the special, curbside pickup will take is difficult, because we cannot make a true assessment of the amount of debris due to limbs not at the curb. The City will work with our contractor to move as quickly and efficiently as possible while assuring the work is done safety and completely.
Tree limbs should be placed along the curb or pavement edge but do not need to be cut up or bundled. Tree limbs and brush should be stacked in piles. Debris should not block sidewalks, storm drains, fire hydrants, or sewage cleanouts. Other debris, such as sheetrock or flooring material should not be included with limbs. Tree limb piles with other material mixed in, such as construction debris or sheetrock, will not be picked up.
Neither City staff nor its contractors will go onto private property beyond the street edge to cut up trees or limbs or move material to the curb. Residents who need help cutting up or removing tree limbs can contact the Austin Disaster Relief Network or hire a private company.
Additional drop-off location
Georgetown residents can drop off unlimited tree debris, free of charge, during set times at an additional drop-off location set up specifically for Winter Storm Mara response.
Residents must bring a driverβs license or utility bill to prove residency. They should not bundle limbs and should be prepared to unload the debris themselves.

Texans who experienced any damage to their home or business from Winter Storm Mara, fill out this survey to help state officials document damages. Damage can include cost of spoiled food from power outages, frozen pipes, and roof or solar panel damage from falling limbs. Do not include broken or damaged trees, as this reporting only considers damages to homes and businesses. This report does not replace notifying your insurance company or guarantee assistance.
