The following is a Press Release by Georgetown ISD
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS βΒ Β Families in Georgetown who need assistance with school supplies can get free backpacks and supplies this Saturday, August 5, from 9 am-Noon at the new Carver Center for Families, 1200 W. 17th Street, Georgetown.
This free event is being hosted by theΒ Georgetown Cultural Citizens Memorial AssociationΒ (GCCMA) in partnership with Georgetown ISD, Georgetown Police Department (GPD), Starry and the Carver Center for Families, First Baptist Georgetown, and GTX Connect.
βLast year, the program served about 350 students. This year, through the collaborative efforts of many organizations, the number of backpacks and supplies more than doubled,β said Melinda Brasher, executive director for communications and community engagement at Georgetown ISD. βIβm grateful and humbled to see how many people have collaborated to make this happen for our kids.β
In addition to the backpack and supply distribution, a vendor fair will take place at the Center.Β Families can learn about additional community resources, local job opportunities, enjoy a petting zoo and beat the heat with snow cones.
Families should enter the campus from Scenic Drive to access the backpack and supply distribution. Parents can let volunteers know the age and gender of the children in their household and the quantity needed, and volunteers will hand backpacks to families in this drive-through-style event.
From there, families are encouraged to park in the main parking lot off 17th Street, grab a snow cone, and enjoy the vendor fair in the air-conditioned building. GPD will be on site helping to direct traffic.
The event runs from 9 am-Noon, and supplies will be distributed until they run out.
Any family in GISD who cannot attend the event and needs assistance with supplies are encouraged to let their childβs school counselor know.
