Georgetown,TX: The Hill Country Authors Series (HCAS) returns Thursday, November 14 at the Georgetown Public Library. Pulitzer Prize-winning Austin author Lawrence Wright discusses his latest novel, Mr. Texas, a hilarious, sharply drawn send-up of Texas politics. In the novel, a dark-horse candidate risks his personal happiness for a career in the Texas House of Representatives.
Wright is a graduate of Tulane University and the American University in Cairo. He became a staff writer for Texas Monthly in 1980; and is also a noted playwright, screenwriter, and author of 11 nonfiction and 3 fiction books. His 2006 book, The Looming Tower, Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11, won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, The Society of American Historians, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Wright will give a 20-30 minute presentation, followed by a 15-20 minute question-and-answer session. Refreshments are included in the admission price and will be served by Sweet Lemon Kitchen.Β Lark & Owl Booksellers will be on hand to sell copies of Mr. Texas, which Wright will be happy to sign.
Sponsored and run by the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library, HCAS takes place upstairs in the libraryβs Friends and Hewlett Rooms. Admission is $17 each, and seats will be for sale October 22 – November 12 on the Friends of the Library website folgeorgetown.org.Β Doors open at 1:30; the event begins at 2:00 PM. Day of admission seats will be available for $20 at the door on a space available basis.
