Georgetown based rock band Tough on Fridays has landed an international record deal!
Eric Nielsen, manager, mentor and producer for the band, told Hello Georgetown the Australia based label Golden Robot Records discovered the band on Instagram.
βThey did some research and we got a note asking us to contact the CEO, Mark Alexander-Erber. Negotiations took a bit longer than normal since much of it was during our ice storm,β Nielsen told Hello Georgetown. β[The band was] extremely excited after receiving the news, almost not believing it! I had to prove to Caleigh that it was actually happening!β
Tough on Fridays originally started about five years ago when two friends from Georgetown High School decided to start a rock band, Nielsen said. The two began performing locally, eventually adding a drummer to their lineup, and have continued to play regularly at local venues, including branching into Austin. It didnβt take long for them to attract an international following (most notably in the UK and Germany) thanks to social media.
βThey became known for writing songs that were different, well recorded and had hooks that made them memorable to the listener,β Nielsen said. βToday, the band consists of founder Caleigh (guitar & vocals) & Carly (bass & vocals) & Chris (drums & vocals). Caleigh has lived in Georgetown nearly her entire life, graduating from GHS and currently teaches guitar. Carly is a Luling, TX, native whoβs been in the Georgetown area forever and currently works for Round Rock School of Rock.β
The band plays a mashup of alternative rock, grunge and punk with a very small touch of pop. All of their music is available worldwide on all digital platforms and the community can see Tough on Fridays perform live on Friday, June 4 at Barrels & Amps.
Their newest single, Cabin Fever, will be available May 3.
Nielsen said the band is especially grateful to the Georgetown community for their success.
βTough On Fridays could not have done what theyβve done without the support of the Georgetown community which has been there all the way,β Nielsen said. βWeβd especially like to thank Mark Stennett & Charlene Grant of Georgetown Radio KGTN 106.7, Roots, Minuteman Press, The Red Poppy Fest Committee, Razzmatazz Salon and Barrels & Amps for all their support.β
