The Georgetown Sertoma Club invites everyone to CELEBRATE SOUND Donβt Walk in Silence on September 18, 2021 at San Gabriel Park, Cypress Pavilion West end.
βWith CELEBRATE SOUND Donβt Walk in Silence, we want to raise public awareness of hearing health issues. The number of people affected, the age ranges affected and the health implications are much broader than the general public might suspect,β said Georgetown Sertoma Club, Speech and Hearing Co-Director Jim Wilson. βBut there are things that can be done. For instance, just through better education we can help prevent noise-induced hearing loss, erase public stigma about hearing loss, and make public spaces more accessible to those who use assistive devices.β
The 5k Walk begins at the West end of San Gabriel Park, Cypress Pavilion and will take walkers through the park. Registration is just $20 and includes a free t-shirt (first 100 walkers) and giveaways.
Participants will check in at 8:00 am before the walk officially begins at 8:30 am. More information is at www.gtxsertoma.org.
You can register by visiting https://p2p.onecause.com/georgetowntx_celebratesound.
Money raised by the Georgetown Sertoma Club at this event will be used to fund both local and national hearing health projects. They include provision of hearing aids for economically disadvantaged individuals by local hearing health providers, making college scholarships available for Hard of Hearing and Deaf students and for those pursuing graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology.
