AGE of Central Texas will host the 8th annual Williamson County Caregiver Conference online, with daily virtual seminar sessions on September 21st through 23rd from 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m. each day.
Sponsored by AARP Texas, the free Conference will address βCaregiving in the New Normalβ and feature presentations by regional and national caregiving experts.
The annual free event was created to help ease the challenges of caring for an aging family member by providing unpaid caregivers with relevant information and vital resources. Participants will discover local resources, acquire skills to better manage their caregiving situation, and connect with local experts on aging.
This yearβs Conference features a special presentation on Wednesday, September 22nd, by Alyssa Aguirre, LCSW, from University of Texas Dell Medical Center speaking on βMaybe You Should Talk to Someone: Q & A with a Dementia Counselor.β The presentation will cover everything from diagnosis to counseling services. Attendees will learn what to expect in a comprehensive evaluation for dementia, review commonly used memory tests, and share suggestions for how to respond to your loved one.
Aguirre is the Assistant Director of Dementia Care Transformation at U.T. Dell Medical School Department of Neurology and Assistant Professor of Practice for the U.T. Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She has been a practicing clinical social worker for 12 years and has dedicated her career to implementing evidence-based Alzheimerβs interventions, advocating for early diagnosis, and supporting family caregivers.
Other presentations include Lynn Hartje, MS, LPC-S, from Bluebonnet Trails Community Services presenting βCumulative Stress and Caregiving Resilience: Put Your Oxygen Mask on Firstβ on Tuesday, September 21st, and Jennifer Perez Del Rio, OTR from the St. Davidβs Adaptive Driving Program will present βDriving While Aging β Safety Considerations for the Aging Populationβ on Thursday, September 23rd.
