This year marks the fifth year the Rotary Club of Georgetown Foundation has provided the awe-inspiring Field of Honor®.
The annual tribute to heroes will be held November 6 – November 14 at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown. SportClips Haircuts is the 2021 presenting sponsor of the Field of Honor®.
The Field of Honor® provides an opportunity to thank our men, women – and K9 and equestrian units – of the Armed Forces and First Responders for defending our country, our freedoms, and our way of life, and who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.” It is also a visible way to inspire gratitude, peace, and unity – a hallmark of Rotary.
The Rotary Club of Georgetown is especially pleased to announce that the 2021-2022 Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta and his wife, Rashi, have accepted the invitation to attend the spectacular Field of Honor® Opening Ceremonies on November 7. Rotary International Director, Suzi Howe will also join us for this unprecedented visit! This is truly and honor!
The AVTT “Cost of Freedom” Traveling Vietnam Wall will be an added feature this year, amplifying the tribute to our heroes amid the breathtaking display of 1,500+ full-size US flags. The 80% replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC, along with several additional panels, will honor veterans from all US wars and conflicts through 2020, and will also include a special tribute to the 13 soldiers that recently died in Afghanistan. The Traveling Vietnam Wall is sponsored by the Hood Endowment, Suddenlink, and several Rotarians, including George Lourigan of Federal Savings Bank, Judge Billy Ray Stubblefield, Joseph and Michele Cuteri, and Tom Howard.
Among the highlights of the Opening Ceremonies on 11/7 this year, there will be a display of military and first responder vehicles, an EXPO and Job Fair, a Walk of Valor parade down a portion of Morrow St. and onto the field – including the Patriot Guard Riders and the Georgetown High School Eagles Marching Band, multiple veteran and first responder organizations, and the 1st Cavalry mounted honor guard who will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Fort Hood’s 1st Cavalry. There will also be music provided by the First Cavalry Quartet, a flyover by the Devil Dog, and dynamic speakers during the ceremony.
In addition to the spectacular Opening Ceremonies, multiple events will be held throughout the week including:
- The Nathan Chapman Honor Walk and The Marine Corps League Detachment 1022 Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony on 11/6
