A local disaster relief group is teaming up with The Monument Cafe to collect items for tornado victims living in Eastern Arkansas.
βWe helped collect donations for Hurricane Harvey in 2017, now our neighbors in Arkansas and Kentucky need some help after the tornadoes,β The Monument Cafe wrote on Facebook. βJoin us is bringing clean-up materials that #GTXRelief will distribute, and making donations that will directly help those affected.β
On December 17th from 2 PM to 6 PM, and December 18th from sunrise to 5 PM, GTX Relief will be receiving donations in The Monument Cafe parking lot.
βI have traveled through that part of the state extensively as I have family in northern Illinois,β Robert Pandya, Founder of GTX Relief, told Hello Georgetown. βItβs a beautiful place, with a very humble and generous population. While the devastation in Kentucky is undeniable, there are many people affected in the corner of our neighboring state who also need help.β
Items the group encourages people to donate include assets that help people in the clean up and recovery process:
- Heavy Duty Trash Bags
- Brooms
- Rakes
- Saws
- Shovels
- Unscented Bleach
- General Cleaning Supplies
- Work Gloves
- Toothbrushes
- Mouthwash
- LAVA Soap
- Plastic Totes
- 5 Gallon Buckets with Lids
- Items to Aid in Cleanup
- Brand New, In Package Socks
- Brand New, In Package Underwear
βThe partnership with the Monument Cafe comes out of being a regular customer for 15 years,β Pandya said. βThe staff and management are community oriented, and have been very generous with this effort by encouraging their many customers to donate.β
Pandya added that those interested in donating used clothing and bedding to GTX Relief should instead donate those items to The Caring Place. Additionally, GTX Relief is encouraging those who would prefer to donate monetarily to send money to the Red Cross of Arkansas and the Salvation Army.
GTX Relief was organized following Hurricane Harvey, Pandya said, and is focused on providing relief for smaller communities that are affected by disasters, but donβt necessarily get all the news coverage.
