Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, TX is nearing their fundraising goal for the foundations for the first 6 homes to be built in the upcoming 12-townhome development Shepherdโs Village.
โWeโre developing Shepherdโs Village, which is our first townhome development in Georgetown,โ Nicole Vommaro, Director of Development & Marketing for Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, TX, told Hello Georgetown. โItโs a 12-townhome development in Southeast Georgetown, located between 21st and 22nd street just off of South Austin Ave.โ
Shepherdโs Village Georgetown is part of the Habitat Williamson Countyโs Home Ownership Program which helps qualifying families afford home ownership, especially in this hot housing market. Future Habitat homeowners ultimately purchase the home with an interest free mortgage, attend classes on financial literacy and also participate in the home building process.
โThey need to be willing to partner and complete a minimum of 300 to 500 volunteer hours, and thatโs what we call sweat equity,โ Vommaro said. โThey do this through volunteering to build
their home, volunteering to build other homes, and helping out in our ReStore. Additionally the future homeowners complete pre and post purchase training that focuses on things like
financial education, home maintenance & repairs, understanding insurance and estate planning. This education component truly helps to train them up to be successful homeowners.โ
Each townhome will feature two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a single car garage, fenced backyard, a driveway with extra parking space and an open front yard. Building Shephardโs Village will be an ongoing, multi-year project, she added, and right now, the organization is fundraising an initial $200,000 for the foundations of the first six homes. Thanks to generous grants from community members and partners, Vommaro said they are almost to this first goal.
โAs of today, weโre about $34,000 shy of reaching our goal of $200,000 for the foundations,โ Vommaro said. โWe are asking the community to please help us reach this goal by going to our website to make a donation towards Shepherdโs Village. You can also learn more there about the different phases of this development and background information on how we decided on the name Shepherdโs Village.โ
Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, TX is hoping to have the foundations in by spring of next year.
โHFHWC is excited to have purchased land in Georgetown so we can begin to build homes once again in this community,โ Debbie Hoffman, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, TX. โWhile we are working daily on helping Georgetown homeowners in need of critical home repairs, building homes in Georgetown is also very important. Shepherdโs Village is becoming a reality because we have many partners โ individuals, faith groups, civic groups, corporations/businesses, city government, county government โ all working together to address the affordable housing crisis in Georgetown.โ
There will be Habitat Williamson County will hold Homeownership Application Information meetings information meetings in early or mid fall, Vommaro said.ย If you would like to sign up to receive information on dates, times and locations of these meetings you can submit your email on their website at https://williamsonhabitat.org/shepherds-village-georgetown/.
