The Georgetown, Texas Police Department is reminding the community about the upcoming dove season starting Thursday, September 1.
With the start of dove season, the department wrote on Facebook, comes an increase in responses to shots fired calls. The department outlined in a Facebook post some helpful things to keep in mind during this time of year:
1) During the season, hunters may hunt from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
2) Discharge of firearms is generally prohibited within the city limits.
3) An exception exists for tracts of land in the ETJ or the city that are 10 acres or more as long as the shooting is more than 150 feet from a residence or an occupied building located on another property. The shooting must also be done in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of the tract.
4) The Georgetown Police Department will continue to respond to all shots fired calls.
5) The purpose of this post is to provide awareness and possibly reduce the concern that the sound of a shotgun in a potential dove hunting area might create.
According to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, dove season in Williamson County will run from September 1 to October 30 and from December 17 to January 15.
