11/26/19 – It’s been a while since our last update about ALDI coming to Georgetown. That’s because not much has changed.
We can still see them on the Developer’s Site Map; it’s been updated a few times and ALDI keeps hanging in there.
We have heard repeatedly that ALDI and LIDL don’t announce their plans for an area until they are ready to open. It’s about competition knowing their plans.
The proposed location is in Wolf Crossing, not too far from the HEB on University and IH-35. There’s a construction trailer at the location now. It is along University right next the the Power Yard. The whole area seems to be in phase two, that’s where Gold’s Gym is slated to come in too.
Here are some images of the site proposed for ALDI. Tap any image for a larger view and slide show.

We don’t have any updates for you about the LIDI at this time. It’s on one of the city’s planning maps, but that map hasn’t been updated recently. We promise to keep you posted about both LIDL and ALDI as soon as we know more.
. . . .
3/3/19 – It’s looking more official all the time. We have several references to the Georgetown ALDI, we even have a location map now from the developer that says ALDI on it!
Here are a few more sources that mention ALDI coming. Please keep in mind that when contacted about a Georgetown store Aldi says they won’t confirm anything until they announce their grand opening.
Many thanks to a reader for these resources:
Here’s the new developer brochure
We thought we might do some investigation into what ALDI Grocery Stores are like.
Our close neighbor, Killeen, has an ALDI; we were there last week and took a bunch of pictures of their really new looking store.
Here’s our gallery. Click any image for a larger view and slide show.
Here’s a link to ALDI’s website. We’ll keep you posted.
Is this like Sam’s Club?
Hi Debbie, no it’s more like a small neighborhood store with low prices and you do your own bagging. Thanks for reading! ~Anne
FYI—the one here in Killeen also requires you RENT your grocery cart. Minimal but a pain in the keester.
Always carry a quarter. That is what it will cost. You will get it back.
All Aldis have you insert a quarter to get a shopping cart. And when you return your cart you get the quarter back. This helps to keep shopping carts from being all over the parking lot. We lived in Germany for many years and that’s how it’s done. We love Aldi!
I’ve heard the LIDL store is planned just west of the HEB on Williams Dr. Ground being cleared. A good addition from what I’ve read.
Hi Bob, that’s right about LIDL, here’s our post about it. https://hellogeorgetown.com/lidl-grocery-store-georgetown-tx/. Thanks for reading friend! xx
I am a good friend of ALDI after living 43 yrs. abroad—esp. in Germany & Austria—so hopeful they will come to G-town!
Please, we want Trader Joes,
Who was responsible for turning down a Trader Joe’s and UFCU
I had heard these considered new locations in Georgetown and were denied…..
I was born in Georgetown and live there for 72:years till I move with my son to Dallas Texas. I would like to read the Georgetown Sun newspapers but I can’t afford to pay for the subscription.
Hi Carmen, we like the Sun newspaper as well. You can sign up to read our newsletter for free if you like. Here’s the link https://hellogeorgetown.com/subscribe/. thanks for reading! ~Anne
So glad Aldi is coming to Georgetown! One of the best stores around, it will be a good fit in Georgetown.
I have (in the 1 1/2 yrs.) written to cooperate ALDI many times asking for an ALDI & Georgetown (also written to Trader Joes & Lidel). I lived 43 yrs. in Europe & only recently have resettled here. ALDI may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is a great addition to Randalls & other elite markets available here. It also carries some seasonal products that we who have lived abroad find delightful. We can only hope that ALDI will make many friends in this community.
I too was a loyal customer in Nebraska, and really miss my ALDI. My only complaint is that It would have been better utilized and practical for a more eastern location. Perhaps at or around NE inter loop and 29, or maybe inner loop and Leander.
It’s great getting more food stores, but I hope we get some cute cafes, donut shops, ice cream shops, and a Belk or Stein Mart store. Kohls is great, but could use some competition and other selections
I agree it is needed here. I was an ALDI regular before we moved to GT. Have missed it greatly. We’ve gone to the one in Pflugerville, but that’s a bit of a trek. So happy to see there will soon be one here. Prices are great, and as a long time customer, the quality is similar to store brands. The cart rental and return is not that big of a hassle, worth it.
Love these comments!!!!!! Let’s keep working to make G-town a beautiful spot for all of us who have lived, or love—the advantages of a diverse selection!
I want to apply to work there but it may be to soon
Yes, I think so Meagan. Hopefully they will put up a sign soon and start construction. Thanks for reading!
So tickled you’re building new Aldi’s in Georgetown, TX. We’re moving there this fall.
Is it to early to apply?
Hi Lydia,
Your eagerness is wonderful, but this store is only in the maybe stages right now. It exists on the developers brochure, so we are keeping our fingers crossed at this paint. Thanks for reading. ~Anne
Sooo excited about it coming. My granddaughter and I go to Killeen. This one would be soo much closer. My kids and their family are excited as well. We’ve been wishing this for years. Or build one in Florence by interstate 195 by Dollar General. Great place for one.
