Boys And Girls Club Of Georgetown

The Georgetown Boys and Girls Club mission statement: “To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.”

” We are committed to providing the best possible after school and summer program for kids between 6-18 years of age.”

Programs and activities designed to achieve three Priority Outcomes:

Good Character & Citizenship – Be an engaged citizen involved in the community, register to vote and model strong character.

Academic Success – Graduate from High School ready for college, trade school, military or employment.

Healthy Lifestyles – Adopt a healthy diet, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness.

Membership

Membership is open to children aged 6-17. Annual Dues are are $10 per year per child. Club aged children whose families are receiving assistance from Georgetown Housing Authority can join at no charge. Free memberships are also awarded to children whose parents are actively serving in the military. Membership Cards can not be issued and made active until the $10 fee has been paid.

Please note that school and club personnel will not allow any children to ride on either GISD or BGC bus to the club unless a permission slip form has been completed. For more information contact Nancy Harris at 512 868 3700.

History

Jeremiah Milbank (1887-1972) was a man of remarkable accomplishments as a businessman, financier and philanthropist. A lifelong believer in voluntarism, Jeremiah Milbank helped President Herbert Hoover develop the Boys & Girls Club national organization that provides support services for Clubs serving disadvantaged youth. He served as treasurer of the national organization for more than 25 years. Throughout his lifetime, Mr Milbank gave a fortune to help those in need yet he never sought monuments or memorials. He believed that wealth not used to help others was wealth wasted.

Volunteering

Volunteers make a tremendous difference in the lives of youth at Boys & Girls Clubs and are vital to the success of our programs and special events. Whether this is in form of a Homework Helper, Club Buddy, Program Facilitator, or Board Member, we are always happy to have help.

Current Location

When the opportunity arose for both club locations to consolidate under one roof at the now closed Carver Elementary Campus, Club Staff were quick to enter into dialogue with Board Members and GISD Staff as to the benefits of this possibility. Not only would there be ample indoor and outdoor space for programming, but also the opportunity to prepare and serve after school meals for members in the commercial sized kitchen and spacious cafeteria. Recently both the Club Board of Directors and GISD Trustees approved the move meaning that on August 24th, 2015 club programming once again is under one roof.
