The City of Georgetown’s Arts and Culture Board is issuing a call for artist proposals for a mural to be located at 215 W. 8th Street, Georgetown, TX.
The goal of the mural is to provide a piece of public art of interest to residents and visitors that represents the City’s vision of “honoring the past and innovating the future.”
The mural will be approximately 21ft x 15ft. The mural should start at approximately 2 ft. above the ground. Currently, vehicles park in front of the proposed mural location and images will be obstructed from the bottom of the mural to approximately 5 ft. from the ground. In the future, a sidewalk will be installed in front of the mural and therefore, there will be less of the mural obstructed. Please keep this in mind for the design of the proposal.
Here are two views of the wall. The gray-scale section is where the mural will be, incorporating the metal guttering.
The exterior wall is painted stucco in good repair.
The mural should include the metal gutters.
There is no application fee.
Proposal deadline: 5pm April 6th 2018
An initial payment of 50% will be paid within two weeks of a signed letter of agreement and 50% will be paid upon completion of the mural.
Material reimbursement – Artist will receive up to $1,500.00 in material reimbursements (with receipts and subject to a signed letter of agreement). Artists are asked to include a budget in proposal. Additional funds may be approved by the Arts and Culture Board if appropriate.
Completion date: All work must be completed prior to Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
Artists are allowed to submit no more than two proposals.

A detailed project description (500 words maximum)
A literal description of the mural.
A description of the concepts in the proposed mural.
How will this work contribute to a visitor’s experience of downtown Georgetown?
List maintenance the mural will require, if any.
An artist statement describing mural experience and interest in the project.
Materials budget (250 words maximum)
Material reimbursement is available up to $1,500.00. The materials budget may be increased depending on justification and approval of the Arts and Culture Board. Please submit a detailed materials budget. The City will assist with procuring scaffolding, ladders, and other pieces of equipment necessary.
Support materials/Previous work
Proposals should be accompanied by 5 to 10 images of previous work (upload).
Artist shall be responsible for preparation of the surface to ensure strong adhesion for durability and longevity. This may include a primer and other preparation necessary for the optimum bond of the paint to the wall.
Two applications (two coats) of Anti-Graffiti/ultraviolet protective coating must be applied on the surface and top of the finished art that will provide resistance to vandalism and the weather. The mural must be approved by Eric Lashley, Library Director, before this protective coating is applied.
The artist will be selected by members of the Georgetown Arts and Culture Board and the building owner. The Board and building owner will select a proposal they feel fits the building and best represents the City of Georgetown’s vision of “honoring the past and innovating the future.”
Artists will be notified about the Board’s selection by Friday, April 20, 2018.
