PoK-e-Jo’s Texas BBQ – Added 2/20/19

Austin based Texas Barbecue; PoK-e-Jo’s is coming to Georgetown Texas.
They now have 5 locations; 4 in Austin and one in Round Rock.
We have learned that PoK-e-Jo’s is coming and that they will occupy the space where La Playa Mexican Restaurant used to be located.
City Plaza – Added 2/20/19
The group of 4 buildings used by the City for their offices are located in a way that creates a city campus just west of the Georgetown Square. The city is saying that they will be giving this area a new name. It has a working name of Downtown West.
The City Campus/Downtown West Project 4 buildings include:
1) The City Hall located at 808 Martin Luther King Street
2) Council Chambers and Municipal Court located at 510 West Ninth Street
3) The Public Library at 402 W 8th Street
4) The historic Light and Waterworks Building which will be the home to the cities’ Economic Development and Planning Departments, 809 Martin Luther King Street.
As of this posting, the city has begun to move their offices into the new City Hall building.
At the same location,Eric Lashley’s vision of a city plaza would include a space for small city events. Mr. Lashley has ordered conceptual drawings of the site from Covey Landscape Architects. These will be presented to the City Council for review.
Mr. Lashley’s vision includes the use of this new space for smaller events like Music on the Square and Market Days; plus a place for outdoor Library activities. Mr. Lashley still sees all the larger events continuing to be on the square.
It’s the new 2 story home of the Watkins Insurance Group and tenants.
Construction began on the 9,600 sq. ft. building last July (2018) and is scheduled for completion summer 2019.
The opening date for Zoe’s Kitchen is.Thursday February 21st!

10/29/18 – This is one big project! You can see the yellow finish, looks like stucco and there’s some pretty stone being added to the exterior of the buildings.

We are always curious about who’s coming to our little town so we did a bit of research on Smoothie King, here’s what we found… We learned that the founder, Steve Kuhnau, began blending to solve his chronic food allergies in 1973.

600 Degrees Market – Updated 2/2/19

You probably know about the award winning 600 Degrees Pizza located at the corner of 8th and Church Streets in Downtown Georgetown.
They plan to open a second To-Go location a block away on Seventh Street. The new location will feature indoor, outdoor seating. You’ll be able to get your Pizza to Go – plus Craft Beer, Wine and In-house roasted coffee.

Five Below is one of the new stores slated for the Bluebonnet Shopping Center; located across from Natural Grocers on West University Blvd.
Here’s the description we found on their Facebook Page; “Five Below is a store of unlimited possibilities where tweens, teens, and beyond let go & have fun while finding the coolest stuff for $5 or less in over 700 stores and online.”

Here’s another large retailer coming to Georgetown TX! It’s Bed Bath & Beyond and they are going to be located in the new Bluebonnet Plaza across from Natural Grocers on Hwy 29.

Bluebonnet Plaza – Update 1/27/19

The target date for completion is sometime in 2020.
Added – 10/11/18 – This development, located across from Natural Grocers at the corner of Wolf Ranch Parkway and Hwy 29, will offer over 600,000 sf of rental space. The developers are expecting Party City, Five Below and Academy Sports plus a daycare, grocery store, fitness and medical.

The new store is slated for completion sometime in 2020.
New Downtown Parking Garage – Added 1/26/19
This past Tuesday the City Council was presented with plans for a new parking garage and parking lot.
At a cost of $5,000,000, the proposed 4 story Parking Garage would include approx 200 parking spaces, an elevator and two staircases; and it would be just under 44 feet tall.

12/16/18 – It looks like we are getting more parking downtown! The City is working on a parking garage that would be located behind the Municipal Court Building at Main and 7th Streets.
The new garage would be located on the lot that now has 47 parking spaces. The new parking garage would offer 200 parking spaces.
Also, the city plans to add another 76 parking spaces across from the Library on 8th street. The new parking lot will take the place of existing county buildings. The plans will go before the city council this spring.
Lark and Owl Booksellers – Updated 1/26/19
Update 1/26/19 – We have some really good news from Lark and Owl! “We are still in construction mode but we are getting closer to being able to announce an opening date. We should be able to announce an opening date in the next week or two.”
New location will be the space immediately adjacent to Monument cafe at Austin Avenue & 6th street.

The future Wolf Crossing Development will be located across IH-35 from Wolf Ranch Town Center and south of Hwy 29. Expected to break ground in April 2018 with planned completion in 2019.

HTeaO will include a custom tea bar with 22 flavors of sweet and unsweet iced tea. They will also feature a full line of YETI merchandise and healthy snack options featuring Project7, Clif Bars, Clint & Sons Beef Jerky and many others.
The Georgetown store will also feature a “Tea Brewing Station” which will put the tea brewing process front and center and allow customers to watch the Brewmaster siphon brew tea all day long.
Construction will begin soon in the Williamsburg Shopping Center. Opening Date is mid-Summer 2019.

The new Jason’s Deli coming to Wolf Crossing should be ready for business late this year (2019). The popular restaurant will be located along Hwy35 according to the developers rendering and news announcements.
First Watch Daytime Cafe – Added 1/1/19
It’s a breakfast and lunch restaurant. This is one of the restaurants slated to be completed by the end of 2019 at the new Wolf Crossing Development at IH35 and University.

Aldi Grocery Store – Added 12/28/18
We’ve been hearing that ALDI is coming to Georgetown. And we keep hearing that they might be in the new development; Wolf Crossing. But we can’t verify any of it, yet. We think it’s a really likely bet so we are adding it to our page.

New Downtown Development at Old Eats on 8th Location – Added 12/28/18
There’s a really big sign at the corner of 8th and Church Street. It’s the old location of Eats On 8th.
For the newbies – On December 17th 2016 Eats on 8th was the site of a fire after an issue with faulty water heaters, the restaurant never re-opened and was torn down.
Now, this sign is promising a new building is coming Summer 2019! And they also say the new space will be for restaurant, office or retail.

Downtown Georgetown – Historic Post Office, Steakhouse and Ballroom – Updated 12/16/18
Georgetown’s Historic Post Office building located across from 600 Degrees will have new owners soon and they are planning to preserve the historic character of the building.

10/18 – The City of Georgetown has approved the real estate contract for the sale of two Downtown Buildings, the City Hall (Old Post Office Building) located at 113 East 8th Street, and the The Municipal Court/City Council Chambers located at 101 E. Seventh Street.
The proposals include a restaurant and micro-distillery, bar and ballroom.

Wolf Lakes Village Italian Style Development – Updated 12/16/18
Construction is slated to start in Early 2019 with the building of an apartment complex on the Hwy 29 side of the property.

The project includes office, retail, entertainment, hotels, and 2,400 housing units totaling 5.3 million square feet of development phased over several years. There have been some developments! On Tuesday the City Council give initial approval to give an estimated $91 million of the property taxes it will earn over a 30-year period from the 164-acre planned development. The money will be used to pay for infrastructure costs including five parking garages, utilities and streets.
The vote on a final approval will be Dec. 11th, 2018. Construction is slated to start in 2019.

Black Box Barbecue Permanent Location – Updated 11/18/18
After speaking with John Meuller on Friday, we understand that they are considering another location as well.
We’ve been by the future location a couple of times and they haven’t started any work that we can see. Still a for sale sign in front.
The new location will be at 1008 South Rock Street and feature a full bar and larger menu. You may remember that Black Box Barbecue opened their food truck located at 201 East Ninth Street (across from Sweet Lemon Inn) during the Red Poppy Festival in 2017.
Expected opening date – late 2018 or early 2019.

We’ve been to the Holt Cat Location and they are making a little progress, it seems, here’s an updated image.
Holt Cat broke ground on their 85,000 ft facility January 30th. The 75 acres where Holt Cat will be is located along Airport Road and is tagged for small-scale industry and commercial use. The city is expecting to see more growth in this area.
Their expected completion date is summer 2019.
River Place Development – Added 9/9/18
Developers Sam and Rebecca Pfister have big plans for the block located along South Austin Avenue, across from El Monumento Restaurant.
