A new local non profit is working on bringing one of the largest American flag monuments to Georgetown!
βInspiration Park is a non-profit Corporation that was established in 2021 to support the construction and maintenance of the largest American flag monument in the United States,β the organization said. βThis monument will be a twin to the original tallest American monument, located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The monument will be 400β² tall, nearby 100β² taller than the Statue of Liberty, and can be seen from over 15 miles away.β
Randy Mongold, Founder of Inspiration Park, told Hello Georgetown when he initially had the idea to create a park like this, he intentionally chose to make this monument a twin to the original found in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, rather than taller, in honor of the efforts of the people who created the original monument in Wisconsin. As the Georgetown proposal has been under development, the original creators, Acuity Insurance, have been very supportive in the plans for the monument proposed in the heart of Central Texas.
The proposed monument and park will be located on land donated by Champion Site Prep along IH-35 and County Road 143. Before people enter the park, they will pass through an air conditioned entrance and office which will feature education about the monument itself and how it was created, as well as public restrooms and vending machines for visitors.
Upon entering the monument, visitors will see the 70β² x 140β² American flag, and a be able to experience the U.S. History Wall and Cost of War Wall along the 792 foot circular wall surrounding the flag while walking the brick memorial pathway. The circular nine-foot tall wall will hold panels listing events each year from 1776 to present, and additional panels will be added each year. The βCost of War Wallβ will include military service honors and details about U.S. wars and conflicts. Both walls will also feature around 300 QR codes that visitors can scan to view additional information.
The monument will also include a US map to scale, and the park itself will include parking for 200+ cars, as well as bus and RV parking.
Currently, the monument is still undergoing PUD approval at the City level, Randy Mongold, Founder of Inspiration Park, told Hello Georgetown. The goal, Mongold said, is to raise funding from late 2021 to Spring 2022 and hopefully, raise the flag in late 2022 or early 2023.
βThis symbol, located at the gateway to Central Texas on IH-35, will be awe-inspiring to all those that pass, and especially to those that stop for a visit,β Mongold said. βIt will be located at the northernmost point of Georgetown, Texas and will represent the hopes, dreams, and possibilities of the entire United States.β
