August Beverage Co. Celebrates 1st Anniversary in Georgetown, TX

August Beverage Co. is getting ready to celebrate their 1st anniversary in Georgetown, TX!

Located at 1204 Williams Dr., the drive thru coffee shop opened their physical location in October 2021 and have grown a steady fan base since opening day.

“We have a lot of people that come through and just want their usual, and we’ll say, for example, ‘Hey, want your usual 20 ounce August macchiato with a kick of oat milk,'” John Huennekans, Director of August Beverage Co., told Hello Georgetown. “I’ve always wanted to go to a place where I could order my usual.”

The business was born out of the Huennekans own approach to coffee in their home. After their friends started asking if they could buy their blend and getting positive public feedback at Poppy Fest in 2018, the couple decided it was time to take the August method to the community. Initially, they considered a sole distribution route of placing their product in local stores, but Huennekans said they both wanted to instead serve and interact with the community in a physical location.

“We just really, really enjoyed that personal atmosphere, being able to talk to people every day.” Huennekans said. “We’d gone and talked to distributors and everything was very numbers [focused], it’s these dates, deadlines, all that kind of stuff, which is great, but we really enjoyed the one-on-one, being able to talk to people, being a part of their lives. It’s like having friends that you get to see every day.”

What initially started as a simple coffee menu has now expanded to their regular blends, new flavors, new features and a food menu too, including house made breakfast tacos and salsa, oatmeal and most recently, fresh Rosen’s bagels with a variety of cream cheese flavors.

“We are very proud of the products that we offer,” Huennekans said. “I can’t tell you how many different coffees and syrups and sauces and energy drinks and foods and all kinds of items that we’ve tried…we’re trying to really just keep things dynamic because we’ve come to find out that August Beverage Co. is like a living and breathing thing…there are ebbs and flows, just like anything.”

Looking ahead, the company is excited to continue serving new and old customers alike with the same intentionality and quality they put into their menu. If a customer needs to get their coffee quickly and hit the road, August Beverage Co. can get their order to them in a jiffy. If the customer has some time to chat and other customers aren’t lined up behind, it’s not uncommon for the staff to strike up a conversation and get to know their customers, right down to their favorite order.

“We have a really, really great community,” Huennekans said. “We always look out for each other and kind of become a family ourselves…and we try to make sure that everybody that comes through our line [knows] that we see them, we know them, we want to know them.”

Some of their upcoming projects include continuing to add new flavors and products to their line up, like the recent addition of fresh bagels and soon bagel sandwiches, bringing back customer favorites, and take August into the community further with a mobile truck. Of course, customers can always stop by the shop for their usual or to try something completely new. While their usual hours are 7 AM to 2 PM Tuesday through Friday and 8 AM to 2 PM on the weekend, Huennekans says customers are welcome to stop by anytime they see their vehicles parked at the shop.

“We put in the customer customer first,” Huennekans said. “I can wash dishes later, I can wash a window later, that person is there and we want to be a part of their life. That’s what we’re doing this for…if you ever see our trucks, or our van or whatever we’re driving, feel free to come up to the window. There’s been times I’ve been there at 6:30 PM, 7 PM at night working and still serving people. If we’re there we’ll serve you.”

To celebrate their anniversary, August Beverage Co. will be featuring several giveaways throughout the weekend of October 28th, 29th and 30th including a free August cup (while supplies last) on Friday the 28th, a free bottle of Cold brew on Saturday the 29th and an insulated August cup (while supplies last) on Sunday the 30th.
