AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Ballet Austin, one of the premiere dance organizations in the country, announced the cast list for the role of Mother Ginger in the dance company’s 61st Annual Production of The Nutcracker. Since 1997, Ballet Austin has welcomed a different community leader to the stage for each public show as Mother Ginger.
Performances for Ballet Austin’s 61st Annual Production of The Nutcracker start December 2 and end December 23 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. The 2023 production will feature choreography by Stephen Mills and live accompaniment of Tchaikovsky’s score by the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
“Mother Ginger is a very special character in Act II of The Nutcracker. For her divertissement, she is rolled on stage atop a platform covered by her white and red satin skirt,” Stephen Mills, Ballet Austin’s Sarah & Ernest Butler Family Fund Artistic Director, said. “We are honored to have dignitaries, business leaders, healthcare professionals and first responders from the growing Central Texas region celebrate this holiday tradition on stage with the community.”
