There is a song by Bjork called, The Anchor Song and the lyrics go,
βI live by the ocean
And during the night
I dive into it
Down to the bottom
Underneath all currents
And drop my anchor
As this is where I’m staying
This is my home.β
Anchored, located in Georgetown, is a Wellness Center founded and focused a nautical theme. An anchor can be a person or a feeling that we hold onto during times of distress, the calm in the storm, or a break in the waves crashing around us.
Emily Kipp-Wright is the founder of Anchored and began the creation years ago as a student at Southwestern University. During Emilyβs time at Southwestern, she worked inside a psychiatric facility. Her work there led to her work in The Austin State Hospital and other facilities throughout the Austin area. She saw a need for a place that incorporated different modalities and a collaboration of many different professionals to support her community.
Emily is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with individuals, couples, and families. In working with the community, she’s realized that a whole-body approach and working as a team with others would serve her clients better. She has teamed up with other counselors and therapists, but also nurse practitioners, nutritionists, DNA specialists, massage, meditation, and aesthetics, all of which is offered onsite at Anchored.
This is part of what makes Anchored different. Anchoredβs mission is to create, βa calm environment that is full of knowledge, life experience, open minds, full hearts, with a clear vision that welcomes all, embraces differences, that shares love and kindness and creates contagious peace.β
In order to do that, Emily along with her team have created a welcoming “home away from home” for their clients. The center operates inside a house built in the 1920βs with original floors, doors, and other gems. The house features comfy couches and large cushiony chairs with lots of pillows to relax into.
At times you will be welcomed with sounds from the ocean and smells of a clean breeze in the air. There is a porch swing for swinging, talking, or being silent as the wind chimes play you a calm tune. The kitchen can be full of teenagers cooking a meal or someone learning how to meal prep. Tucked away in one office you will discover an art studio where creativity is endless. Just a few steps across the drive you enter The Cottage where you will feel as if you are seaside and on vacation.
The center also holds quarterly events for the community. These events support small, local businesses and Anchored opens its doors to allow others to visit and see all that they have to offer.
