When it comes to improving one’s health and wellness, there are plenty of tools like diet, exercise, self-care and meditation.
Crystal Rhea, a DNA Nutritionist at Anchored Wellness, is helping people add another resource: Nutrition through DNA Testing.
“Once we see what genetic weaknesses they have, where their support is needed, we are then able to customize a meal plan, as well as plant based supplementation, to support those genetic weaknesses where they get exactly to the micro doses of those herbs and or plants proven by science to support it,” Crystal Rhea told Hello Georgetown.
In a world where lifestyle fads and trends, plus a variety of medical information, ebb and flow across the internet, Rhea said DNA testing can be the key to unlock a more thorough understanding of how to tackle wellness in a way that works for each specific individual.
“We are overwhelmed with information,” Rhea said. “When it comes to our health, most of us will Google our symptoms, and be careful, because we never know who’s writing the article or where the source is coming from, and you can go down huge bunny trails…For me, people can expect a session with me where we’re going to zero in on exactly what they need, not wasting time anymore. Bringing hope, making things super simple, daily things that they can do, that are going to be simple to implement in their daily lifestyle. There is an answer to whatever they’re dealing with. We just need to find where their body may be lacking nutritional support.”
Rhea’s passion for DNA focused nutrition stems from her own personal story. After experiencing her own health challenges, including a hiatal hernia, and subsequent surgery on her throat to provide relief, Rhea spent time pursuing solutions, but could not find healing.
“I was under a lot of stress, I started having some health complications,” Rhea said. “What I found out is that stress can turn on genetic mutations, I didn’t know that then. But, my symptoms were due to my genetic mutations being turned on by stress…I was sick and tired of being sick all the time, and so I gave this [naturopathic doctor] a chance. Through muscle testing, he prescribed to me a formula of herbs to heal my gut. What I found out was that it was very curable. I never needed surgery. Everything that I was dealing with was linked to having an over inflamed gut. So, I just needed to get the inflammation to subside, and to heal my gut. I did that through nutrition, and herbs.”
After following her new nutrition focused regimen for seven days, Rhea said she was finally able to eat for the first time without worrying about choking.
“That’s when I fell in love with nutrition, and I realized that this is how I want to serve people, to have my own business as a nutritionist, because I felt the biggest commodity that we have as people is our health,” Rhea said.
Now, as a DNA Nutritionist, Rhea offers that same hope to her clients.
“We now have the technology and the science, to see a person’s genetic weaknesses, and then to support those,” Rhea said. “That’s how I got into it, and what spurred me on, and kind of made me look a little deeper than just the bottom line nutrition. There has to be something more specific that we can get to, to really customize what each person needs, so I’m not wasting their time and/or their money as a nutritionist.”
Many common health issues, she added, can be addressed and resolved through DNA testing.
“We just accept these issues that we have, whether it be high cholesterol, high blood pressure, autoimmune disease, eczema, skin issues, weight gain, all these things that are linked to genetic mutations can be turned off,” Rhea said. “These are genes that are called actionable, and through the right type of meal plan and nutritional support supplementation, you can turn genes off, which means it won’t be wreaking havoc in your body anymore.”
