On Friday, April 15, St. Davidβs Georgetown Hospital hosted a very special event in the ICU: the wedding of Paul and Stephanie Pedraza.
The high school sweethearts have been together for 20 years and were finally planning their wedding when Stephanieβs mother Rose fell ill and was placed in the ICU, the hospital told Hello Georgetown.
As Stephanieβs only living parent, the couple wanted to make sure Rose attended the wedding and brought the occasion to her bedside.
βWe were overjoyed to assist the family in this time of celebration,β Darrell Hudson, manager of spiritual care and volunteer services for St. Davidβs Georgetown Hospital, told Hello Georgetown. βThis is another demonstration of ICARE (integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence), the core values of St. Davidβs HealthCare.β
Hudson added that in his eight years with St. Davidβs Georgetown Hospital, this is his first wedding in the ICU, and his second wedding at the hospital.
βIt is not unusual for hospital staff members to go out of their way to do something special for their patients, but in this case it was a true team effort for so many to pitch in and be a part of this familyβs special day,β Hugh Brown, CEO of St. Davidβs Georgetown Hospital, told Hello Georgetown. βThey once again proved that delivering exceptional care often involves more than simply being great clinicians.β
Congrats to the happy couple!
