In March 2023, 19 high school students from East View High School Percussion will travel to Indianapolis to participate in a national music festival.
The Music for All National Festival, Georgetown ISD said, invites middle school and high school ensembles to apply for the festival by submitting recorded pieces of music, which are reviewed and critiqued.
βOnly a handful of applicants are invited to attend the festival,β Georgetown Independent School District wrote in a news release. βOut of the high number of schools that applied from all over the country, only nine were invited to attend the percussion festival.β
The invited groups will perform a concert at the festival, and will also have the opportunity to connect with music students from around the nation while also sharpening their skills by learning from college professors and world famous musicians. In previous years, Andrew Blezinger, EVHS Director of Percussion, said, educators from Julliard, Berkley School of Music and Eastman School of Music have taught at the festival.
βOur full percussion β about 19 students ranging from freshmen to seniors β are attending,β Blezinger said. βIt is such an honor to be invited, and I know the students are so excited to be among the invitees.β
According to the school district, this is the first time a school from Georgetown ISD has been invited to the festival.
βThis has brought a lot of attention to Georgetown, and we have really seen how supportive the Georgetown community is of fine arts,β Blezinger said. βHaving a community like thisβ¦itβs not a common thing. We are very lucky, and it is noticed in the way the students approach their work.β
