Georgetown, TX: City Council approved the implementation of a short-term rental (STR) program at its Sept. 24 regular meeting. The program will begin Nov. 1, 2024.
All STR operators are now required to register their properties with the City to ensure compliance with the necessary regulations, including providing contact information for a 24/7 local contact and submitting statements acknowledging City ordinances. Additionally, owners must distribute a neighborhood notice to all addresses within 200 feet of the STR and collect and remit local Hotel Occupancy Taxes (HOT) to the City of Georgetown. More details about the STR regulations, including an FAQ, can be found on the Cityβs website.
The initial registration fee is $100, but those who register between Nov. 1, 2024, and Jan. 1, 2025, will have their registration fees waived. The registration process, including both registration and payment, will be available to complete online. Once the program is in effect, all property owners with active STR listings will be notified by mail.
Operating an STR without proper registration and permits is a violation of the Cityβs Code of Ordinances.
As of September 2024, Georgetown has 285 STR listings, with a significant concentration in the Old Town neighborhood. The program aims to enhance neighborhood quality of life, ensure compliance with registration and HOT payments, and improve communication between the City, STR owners, and their neighbors.
