Georgetown Band “Tough on Fridays” will be showcasing at South by Southwest 2022!
“Every year since the band’s beginning in 2017 we’ve applied,” Eric Nielsen, Manager for Tough on Fridays, told Hello Georgetown. “This year was no different though there was a certain uncertainty since SXSW was cancelled last year. But we went and applied anyway in October. Then in December the band got notice that out of 1000s of international bands, our application stood out. We were placed on standby by the Music Fest committee and told that they confirm showcases up to the last minute. Tough On Fridays received our formal invitation at the end of February. And our name hit the international news on March 3.”
Tough on Fridays originally started about five years ago when friends and Georgetown High School students decided to start a rock band, Eric Nielsen, manager, mentor and producer for the band, told Hello Georgetown. The two began performing locally, eventually adding a drummer to their lineup, and have continued to play regularly at local venues, including branching into Austin.
In April 2021, the band landed a record deal with Golden Robot Records and later that year, released a new single Cabin Fever. Now, they can add a performance at SXSW to their growing list of accomplishments.
“The band has really been fortunate during its entire existence and this is no exception,” Nielsen said. “Tough On Fridays will play their Official forty minute Showcase at Chess Club at E7th St. and Red River in Austin on Saturday night, March 19. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
Thanks to Tough on Fridays, Georgetown is represented now on a list of bands from across the world who will be attending the event, from the Netherlands to New Braunfels, from Denmark to Dallas, from Taiwan to Tampa, and dozens of more places.
“It was really something to see “Tough On Fridays (Georgetown, TX)” on the same list with Dolly Parton, (Pigeon Forge, TN), Houndmouth, (New Albany, IN), Jade Bird, (Hexham – UK-England) and Sammy Hagar and the Circles (Marin, CA). We’re all kind of taking it all in right now,” Nielsen said.
The band will perform on March 19 at the Chess Club. Tough on Fridays (Caleigh – guitar/vocals, Carly – bass/vocals & Chris Schreck – studio/touring drummer) is also gearing up to release another single, Covet, on March 21.
“It’s actually a cover song…by the UK band Basement,” Nielsen said. “Tough On Fridays is a big fan of theirs. As the band continues to refine its sound, they thought this would be a good one to do, especially with Caleigh’s vocals giving the song a very different feel from the original. And we have a lot of fans in the UK that will like the song…Golden Robot Records, the band’s label, has sent press releases all over the world so the song is actually starting to hit the radio. It will be officially released on March 21st.”
Nielsen said people can follow the band on Spotify, and pre-save their new release on Apple Music to access the song the day it’s released by visiting this link: https://bfan.link/TOF-Covet. Georgetown can also see the band live in April.
“After SXSW our next confirmed show is at Roots Bistro on April 9,” Nielsen said. “Since the band hasn’t played locally in over a year, it will be packed!”
The band is also slated to play in Austin later in April, and with 90’s icons Everclear & Lit in North Carolina in May. You can find and follow the band on Facebook or on their website.
