After recently retiring from the association, Winola VanArtsdalen of Georgetown and Jane Bowman of Cedar Park were conferred the prestigious award of Texas Master Gardener Emerita after long and dedicated service to the Williamson County Master Gardener Association. As AgriLife Extension volunteers, Master Gardeners give to the community by extending research-based knowledge and providing solutions in one-to-one problem solving, in demonstration gardens, educational programs, and educational materials.
Nominated by their peers and elevated by the State to Emeritae, these women have served with surpassing distinction.
An inductee of the inaugural MG Class of 2007, Winola VanArtsdalen worked on each and every project ever begun by the county association in her tenure. A gifted speaker and writer, the retired teacher gave presentations to countless community groups, was association president, and retained specializations in Junior Master Gardener, Vegetables, Oak Wilt and Propagation.
Her 2012 trainee, Jane Bowman, quickly utilized her leadership skills in heading up Junior Master Gardener, then on to association president, delegate at the state level, Secretary of the State TMGA Board, and for the past five years a member of the State Audit Committee for TMGA. Bowman created and launched our countyβs βHands on in the Gardenβ project, which continues to impact hundreds of home gardeners needing practical, physical horticultural instruction.
Bowman and VanArtsdalen were presented their Emeritae Awards at the Annual Williamson County Master Gardener Awards Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on December 3, 2022, will be recognized by the Williamson County Commissioners Court at 9:30 a.m. on December 20, 2022 and added to the Emeriti Roster at the Texas Master Gardener Association State Office.
