The Georgetown Palace Theatre has announced that a gift from the estate of Doug Smith has allowed them to pay off the remaining mortgage for the Doug Smith Performance Center!
βOn Monday, December 20 at 4:30pm, various staff, donor, volunteers, and board members of the Georgetown Palace Theatre gathered in front of the Doug Smith Performance Center on 206 W. 2nd St. in Georgetown, Texas, to celebrate and document a most generous and monumental occasion,β the theatre wrote on Facebook. βLast week, the Palace received a gift bequeathed by the estate of Doug Smith that allowed the non-profit theatre organization to pay off the mortgage on Smithβs namesake building.β
The Doug Smith Performance Center is one of three locations for The Georgetown Palace Theatre and is home to the Education Program and Smith Center events. Itβs located at 2nd and Rock Street, and opened in mid-2020. According to the organization, the education program offers year-round after school, weekend and summer theatre workshops for students in grades 1-12 and adults.
βIt is such an exciting time for the Palace and we look forward to the future, β Executive Artistic Director Ron Watson said. βWe are so grateful for the deep generosity of Doug Smith, his family, and his estate and are honored to be the keepers of his legacy with this namesake building.β
