On Sunday, September 25th, Helping Hands of Georgetown will host their 1st Annual “Party in the Parking Lot!”
“Our last fundraiser in 2019 was a very large, very formal fundraiser, and so this year we decided to do something a little more fun and a little more in line with what we feel speaks to who Helping Hands is,” Rebecca Huggins, Executive Director for Helping Hands of Georgetown, told Hello Georgetown. “It’s actually in the parking lot where we serve [our clients] Monday through Thursday.”
The event will feature a variety of activities including fresh BBQ from Jimmy Vega’s Smokehouse, ice cream from Scoops, a dunk tank competition featuring local celebrities, live music, raffle items and a silent auction, and a free kids area which will have food, games, face painting, and more.
“We’ll have the entire parking lot, and it’s just going to be a fun,” Huggins said.
What makes the tickets particularly unique, Huggins said, is what they cover. For $35, attendees aren’t just getting a meal and entertainment, they are also paying for future Sunday Dinner and Brown Bag program meals the organization serves to those experiencing food insecurity. Different than the organization’s pantry bags which are given to individuals and families in need, the Sunday Dinner and Brown Bag programs are physical ready to eat meals assembled and distributed by Helping Hands of Georgetown and required fresh ingredients to be purchased each week.
“The purpose behind the ticket is a buy one, give one meal…So, when you buy your meal, you’re also sponsoring a meal for Sunday dinner that night…or for future meals,” Huggins said. “Our main purpose and our main vision is food security, and so our goal with this fundraising event is to ensure that we have funding to maintain our Brown Bag program. Our brown bag meals, which we do 600 per week, those are items that we purchase and we send out into the community. So, the funding from this event will actually go to help continue that mission and that program.”
Party in the Parking lot will be held from 1 PM to 5 PM at 402 W. 8th Street in the parking lot across from the Georgetown Public Library. Tickets for the event can be purchased online by clicking here. Kids eat and play free!
