A new annual music festival might be coming to Georgetown in 2023.
The proposed festival was presented at the May 10 City Council workshop and would be put on in conjunction with C3 Presents who currently runs Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and other events.
“This festival aligns with the council’s vision of making greater use of our parks, and also bringing public/private special events to our community,” Kimberly Garrett, Parks and Recreation Director, said at the workshop. “In addition, our recent Master Plan also includes improvements to San Gabriel Park, which includes a festival space, which is planned in San Gabriel Park with construction of Phase Three to begin the second quarter of 2023.”
The proposed festival would take place over two days in April 2023, Saturday and Sunday, and would feature a mix of current and retro country music acts.
“They’re proposing to have three stages with the growth in potential years to add additional stages, and they’re looking at a ticketed event with a maximum of 30,000 people in year one,” Garrett said.
The event would be ticketed and there would also be parking off site. Garrett added that C3 Presents also proactively discourages patrons from parking in nearby neighborhoods, provides post event cleanup and park repair/restoration. A portion of the revenue from ticket and beverage sales would also go the Friends of the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department.
“The purpose of the Friends group is to support the Parks and Recreation Department by providing programs and facilities that promote social cultural and recreational wellbeing,” Garrett said. “The Parks and Rec Department would then have a subsequent agreement with the Friends on how that money would potentially benefit the community. We would look at scholarships for our recreation programs and potentially adding more community events, or even Parks and Recreation of capital improvements.”

Just country music? Why? Will the artists be paid? the City of Georgetown decided a couple years ago that any music acts they hire will not be compensated. They do allow busking (beggging) but you need to buy a permit (pay to beg model). All the while crowing about how Georgetown is a city for the arts.
Musicians deserve to be paid for their work. I hope this has changed and that this festival idea expands beyond country – blues, jazz, New Orleans, Americana- there is a plethora of American music styles that appeal to a very wide range of people.
Awesome! Will this be similar to Richardsonβs Wildflower Festival? Seems to be. SUPER event for the City of Richardson and also for the attendees! Cheapest 3 day Festival around and the food vendors are reasonably priced!
Iβd love to participate in the planning & organizing of an event like this! I could be the Emergency Communications Liasion!
