A new type of comedy show is making it’s way to Georgetown, Texas.
“Don’t Tell Comedy brings live comedy experiences to cities across the nation,” the organization said. “We showcase the best of the next generation of stand up comedians through secret pop up shows in unique locations!”
Now, Don’t Tell Comedy is coming to Georgetown on Thursday, July 29th at 8:30pm at a secret location in downtown Georgetown.
The premise of the organization’s shows is simple. Attendees purchase tickets for the event, but don’t find out the location or the comedians until later.
“We thrive on the element of surprise,” Jared Olivarez, Lead Producer for Don’t Tell Comedy, told Hello Georgetown. “Ticket holders will receive our special reveal email at noon on the day of the event giving the precise address (located on the square) and any additional details about the show. Check-in begins at 8:00 PM and the show will begin promptly at 8:30 PM. The duration of the show runs about 90 minutes. Our comic lineup includes a variety of 5-6 of the best local and nationally-touring comedians, but you won’t know who they are until they are introduced to take the mic.”
This is the organization’s first show in Georgetown, but not it’s first in the area. Olivarez said after over 100 shows in Austin, he wanted to bring Don’t Tell Comedy to his hometown.
“As a resident of Georgetown, I love that our community will often head to the square to unwind with drinks, stroll from shop to shop, or bask in live music over dinner,” Olivarez said. “We really just wanted to bring another entertainment option for everyone in the area…Georgetown has such an incredible art, theater and music community and we’re excited to add on to the options for folks to come enjoy a unique take on seeing live comedy without having to drive to Austin – the recently self-proclaimed “new capital of comedy”.
The July 29th show is for ages 21+ and attendees are invited to bring their own snacks and drinks.
“We don’t believe in drink minimums at comedy shows (those suck), instead bring your own booze and snacks,” Olivarez said. “We really want everyone to feel at home at our shows and have an incredible time…You’re in for a pleasant surprise and a fun evening.”
Past comedian drop-ins have included:
- Iliza Shlesinger
- Mark Normand
- Nikki Glaser
- Tom Segura
- Ali Wong
Venues across the country have been varied as well and Olivarez said he invites anyone who has an idea of where a future show could take place to reach out.
“This is our very first show in Georgetown, and although we don’t have any future shows planned yet, we are actively seeking fun and unique locations in the area to hold our next event,” Olivarez said. “We are big on community and since we are a “pop-up” style show, we work with others who feel they have a place that would make for a fun Don’t Tell Comedy location. Our past show locations have definitely been unconventional: Austin Aquarium, the historic Wolf House, Crux climbing gym and a secret art garden called Sekrit Theater – to name a few we’ve done in the Austin area. If you’ve been to one of our shows across the country, love what we do, and have a tip on where our next Georgetown show will be, give us a holler!”
