On Thursday, March 31 at 12:00 noon, the 2022 GoBlue Committee blanketed the lawn of the historic Williamson County Courthouse with blue ribbons and pinwheels, commemorating and kicking off Aprilβs National Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month.
This annual impact event is sponsored and hosted by a network of more than a dozen Williamson County coalition partners, including Williamson County Childrenβs Advocacy Center (WCCAC). βIt is a privilege to join members of our countyβs leadership to recognize and honor victims of child abuse,β says Kerrie Stannell, CEO of WCCAC. βThe Ribbons on the Square event will have the greatest impact in its simplicityβthe contrast of a childhood toy in the color many of us associate with an injury.β
Members of the community are welcome to visit and photograph the display, and staff and volunteers will be available to educate, share the mission, and answer questions. The intent of the Ribbons event is to demonstrate the countyβs commitment to victims and survivors and inspire a sense of gratitude for those working every day to protect children. The Ribbons on the Square will remain up throughout the month of April.
βThis is not a fundraising event,β Stannell adds. βThis is purely about awareness and helping bring the conversation about abuse out of the shadows and into the light. We are grateful for the many partners on our Go Blue Committee; CASA of Williamson County, Williamson County Sheriffβs Department, Round Rock PD, Leander PD, Cedar Park PD, Georgetown PD, Taylor PD, Liberty Hill PD, BACA β Bikers Against Child Abuse, Williamson County Juvenile Justice, Starry, The Georgetown Project, and Georgetown ISD.β
