Southwestern University is offering a new scholarship plan to students starting in 2022!
βWe believe this is an important step in making a world class liberal arts education more accessible and affordable to students from all backgrounds,β Vice President for Strategic Recruitment and Enrollment Tom Delahunt said.
Beginning in fall 2022, first year students admitted to Southwestern will be automatically awarded scholarships based on their class rank in high school or their recalculated GPA, whichever is higher.
βRecalculated GPA is defined as grades earned in core high school courses, namely English language arts, math, science, social studies, and foreign language,β the university wrote. βAll incoming students, including international, homeschooled, test optional, in state, and out of state students, will be automatically awarded the funds as part of their financial aid package. The funds can be used to offset SU tuition and fees.β
For example, a student who is ranked in the top 6% to 10% in their classΒ orΒ who has a recalculated GPA of 3.75 to 3.94 (whichever is higher) will receive between $25,000 to $31,000 in scholarships. A student who ranks below 35% in their class or has a recalculated GPA below 3.00 (whichever is higher) will receive between $15,000 and $21,000 in scholarships.
These scholarships, which will be renewable for up to eight semesters, can also be combined with additional assistance awards based on holistic review of merit, financial need and submission of the FAFSA application. With multiple awards available to students, Southwestern University says that earning a four year degree from Texasβs top ranking and most selective private liberal arts institution can be potentially less expensive than education from a public state university.
βWe recognize that higher education seems out of reach for so many students,β Delahunt said. βBut Southwestern is committed to putting a distinguished college experience well within the reach of a diverse, inclusive range of studentsβwhile making the financial aid process easier to understand for students and their families.β
