It’s a girl!
On Sunday, January 2 at 1:42 AM, St. David’s Georgetown Hospital saw the first birth of the new year when Baby Madison made her way into the world weighing 7 lbs, 12 oz. Welcome to the world Baby Madison!
Baby Madison is the first of many babies to be born in the coming year and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital is ready to help mothers and babies whatever their needs may be.
“In 2021, St. David’s Georgetown Hospital received a Level II Maternal Designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services,” Courtney Hamby, Director of Women’s Services at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, told Hello Georgetown. “The purpose of the state’s Maternal Levels of Care Designation is to better address complex cases that present a high risk of maternal morbidity or mortality.”
All women’s services nurses at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital have neonatal resuscitation certification, she added, and most have an obstetric nursing board certification specialty. The hospital also now has a lactation consultant on the team.
“Receiving this designation means that we are able to provide higher complexity care, closer to home, for Georgetown patients,” Hamby said. “This is one of the many ways that St. David’s Georgetown Hospital is ensuring we continue to grow our services and capabilities to meet the needs of our rapidly growing Georgetown community.”
St. David’s Georgetown Hospital has also partnered with Mother’s Milk Bank of Austin and can provide donor breast milk for all infants when needed upon parental request.
“We have also re-designated as a Texas 10 Step Program which designates birthing facilities that provide optimal care to improve breastfeeding outcomes,” Hamby said. “We now offer skin-to-skin in the operating room for our c-section patients, referred to as a gentle c-section and are designated as a perinatal unit of distinction.”
