The Sun City Pet Club recently delivered pet supplies and almost 900 pounds of dry dog food to the Williamson County Animal Shelter, after the shelter took in 41 animals from a single location on March 10.
“Yesterday, the shelter took in 41 animals from a single location in Liberty Hill,” the shelter wrote on Facebook on March 11. “We were already overly full and had no more space before they arrived.”
Alan Kamen, President of the Sun City Pet Club, contacted the shelter to offer support and then contacted Wag Heaven Pet Supplies, a local pet store whose owners are also members of the Sun City Pet Club, for assistance, the organization said.
The Pet Club has initially donated almost 900 lbs. of dry dog food, plus other requested supplies such as dog beds, towels, sheets, and animal crates.
“Wag Heaven was able to order a large quantity of pet food at below-wholesale pricing, which allowed the Pet Club to purchase and donate more to the shelter. Pet club membership dues and other resources made the sizable donation possible,” according to the Sun City pet Club. “Pet Club member Terry Ross of Neighborhood 22 in Sun City got her neighbors involved and received a SUV full of donations of bedding, towels, pet carriers, harnesses and blankets.”
The Sun City Pet Club said they have plans to continue donating and raising funds.
“The pet club members are a wonderful example of what it means to take care of each other,” Jeff Manley, co-owner of Wag Heaven, said. “We are so very grateful to have the opportunity to assist the club with supporting our local pet welfare community.”
The Sun City Pet Club is comprised of residents who reside within Sun City, Georgetown, Texas. The club’s mission includes providing support to local animal rescue agencies and shelters.
“[The club] regularly respond to requests from many organizations, and always with a charitable attitude,” the organization said. “Members also volunteer many hours to help care for the pets in shelters and rescue agencies in the Georgetown area, including walking the pets, adopting, fostering, providing funding, and more.”
