The Golden Rule has officially won the Texas Downtown Association President’s Award for Best Downtown Business!
“Winners of the 2021 President’s Awards Program were announced in Denton in conjunction with the Texas Downtown Conference,” the Texas Downtown Association said. “For over 35 years the awards program, sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA), has recognized outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas downtowns.”
The award comes shortly after The Golden Rule won the People’s Choice Award for Best Downtown Business.

“The People’s Choice Awards allow downtown supporters to show their appreciation for downtown projects, programs, businesses, buildings, and groups,” Cody Hirt, Co-Owner of The Golden Rule, told Hello Georgetown. “These awards differ from our President’s Awards Program, which is what we were awarded on 11/4, which bestows separate awards that are determined by independent judging panels.”
According to the Texas Downtown Association, the Best Downtown Business award, “recognizes an exceptional downtown business that positively promotes the downtown or commercial district as a destination for locals and tourists alike, and actively participates in the revitalizations efforts and supports downtown promotional events.”
“Of course we’re always hopeful that we’ll pull it off in the end, but we also knew how amazing the talent pool was in our division,” Hirt said. “When they announced The Golden Rule, we all jumped up, high fived, hugged and celebrated! We knew from the time we won the same award for Mesquite Creek Outfitters in 2017 how important this award truly was for us…it was a very emotional moment for all of us after all the hard work and determination that it took to open and run a restaurant during a pandemic!”
The Golden Rule’s General Manager Tommy McCormick and his wife, and Head Chef Juan Ramirez and his wife, were also at the event to accept the award for The Golden Rule.
“We are so blessed, we wouldn’t even have been in the running without the amazing support from our community, the hard work of our amazing co-workers, our families and their patience and especially our Downtown Development Manager, Kim McCauliffe, what she does for our downtown is something pretty special to say the least,” Hirt said. “On a side note, our understanding is that we may be the only people to win this amazing award twice…who knows, maybe we’ll start working on a project and go for our third!”
