After years of providing youth services from a storefront operation on Williams Drive, the YMCA of Central Texas fundraising efforts have been bolstered by a $1 million donation that will propel the Founders Group endeavors to build a full-facility YMCA on the west side of Georgetown. The donation from Gordan Logan, founder and chairman of Sport Clips Haircuts will transform the YMCA in Georgetown.
“Giving back to our community and our neighbors has always been a priority for my family,” said Logan. “The YMCA in Georgetown makes a positive influence on the lives of so many children, adults and seniors across Central Texas. I am honored to know this contribution will allow the YMCA of Central Texas to expand its capabilities and capacity to impact more lives across the region.”
The donation will allow new facilities to be constructed on the future grounds of the YMCA in Georgetown enhancing the Y’s mission to create and conduct programs to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
“Just like Mr. Logan and the Sport Clips brand, the YMCA is known for its local presence and global outreach,” said Jeff Andresen, President & CEO of The YMCA of Central Texas. “This generous donation will serve as the foundation of the YMCA of Central Texas’ plans to expand the Georgetown campus with new facilities and buildings. These resources will elevate our ability to deliver positive change across the Central Texas community we proudly serve.”
Contributing to the Georgetown community is second nature for Logan. Founded in 1993, Sport Clips Haircuts is headquartered in Georgetown and the Logan family are long-time supporters of the YMCA. The Logan family is well-known in the community for their contributions to worthy causes, including the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown, Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center, ROCK-Ride on Center for Kids, and more.
Currently, the YMCA in Georgetown has limited services including an after-school care program in partnership with the Georgetown ISD, summer camps and enrichment activities. A “Founders Group” of dedicated Georgetown community leaders is raising funds to construct a full-facility YMCA in Georgetown similar to the Y’s in Round Rock and Cedar Park.
To date, more than $2.5 million has been raised locally. Those funds will be combined with the $8 million commitment from the resources of the YMCA of Central Texas association to fund the Phase 1 portion of the new YMCA facility in Georgetown. Phase 1 construction is planned to commence in early 2024. The Founders Group will continue its fundraising efforts to generate additional expansion of the YMCA in Georgetown.
