3rd Annual Field of Honor
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Georgetown
Join us over Veterans Day week – November 9th through the 17th, 2019 – as the Rotary Club of Georgetown hosts the 3rd Annual Field of Honor® at the Activity Field in San Gabriel Park on Chamber Way.
The Field of Honor it is a stunning display of over 1500 full-size U.S. flags, each of which can be purchased and dedicated to a veteran or first responder for a donation of $40 per flag. Those who have already bought flags can bring them back anytime during that week (flags must be in perfect condition) to re-post for only $20.
This year all are encouraged to also “Adopt-a-Hero!” That means you can purchase a flag for a deserving member of our military or first responders from your choice of Fort Hood, Camp Mabry, GPD, GFD, Sheriffs Dept., EMS, or a K9 Unit.
Those flags will be given to the respective leadership to be presented to deserving heroes in a fitting ceremony. Recipients will feel your gratitude as they are given a flag that flew in their honor at the Field of Honor®. Please support this program to honor heroes you may not know, but whom deserve our gratitude.
Another new feature this year is that there will be a dedicated section of flags for our four-legged heroes – K9 service dogs! They, and their handlers deserve our gratitude as well!
Purchase and dedicate your flag(s) now at www.georgetowntxfieldofhonor.org or you can do so all week at the Field of Honor® while flag supplies last.
100% of the net proceeds from flag sales will be awarded to veteran and first responder organizations. See our list of selected 2019 beneficiaries on our website!
Enjoy the week of the Field of Honor®! Here is the schedule of inspiring activities and events for the whole family:
Participate in a 5K Honor Walk hosted by Sertoma on 11/9 at 8:30 a.m. Arrive at 8am to register at the Field of Honor®.
The Grand Opening Ceremonies on 11/10 will be amazing. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., bring the whole family out to see and touch fabulous static displays from Fort Hood, Camp Mabry, GPD, GFD, Sheriff’s Department – including K9s – EMS, and others.
Among the displays will be an Abrams Tank, courtesy of Fort Hood, a fire truck, SWOT vehicles, and many other military and first responder vehicles, some with weapon mounted systems.
There will also be a Veteran and First Responder Resource Expo that everyone can visit, including K9 demonstrations, real canons and muskets, and other fascinating displays.
Beginning at 1:30, you can look up to the heavens and watch the Devil Dog and other fly-overs as a lead-in to the spectacular Opening Ceremonies featuring a Parade of Colors, top brass from Fort Hood and Camp Mabry, the Fort Hood 1st Cavalry Division Band, as well as our own GPD and GFD leadership, our GFD Pipes and Drums, and many other favorites.
Don’t Miss This Event! Come early for a seat in the tent, or bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit outside of the tent. Food trucks, a 16-foot viewing platform, firing canons, and of course, the majesty of over 1500 U.S. flags, the flags of our military and first responder branches, our 27 historical flags, and 9 Texas historical flags (yes…. 9!) will all be on display.
On Monday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m., there will be a tribute to WWII and Korean War Veterans. Please bring your family, friends and neighbors that have served in either or both of these wars.
There will be a fitting tribute to the Greatest Generation, along with a presentation and salute to each veteran who served in either of these wars by a General Officer.
If you would like for your WWII/Korean War family member or friend to be presented with a Quilt of Valor, please contact Michelle Bailey at Poppy’s Quilt of Valor (512) 863-6108 to learn how to nominate your hero for a quilt. Those quilts will be presented in a ceremony during the Tribute as well.

About 1,000 8th graders will visit the Field of Honor® where the Williamson Museum will present their “Traveling Trunks” and the kids will participate in a panel with real veterans and first responders, among other learning experiences at the Field.
As they return to their buses, each child will receive a Pocket Constitution to keep and cherish.
On Friday, November 15th at 11:30 there will be a Multi-Club Rotary meeting. All Rotarians are welcome and are encouraged to bring a veteran or first responder guest to be honored.
