GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – Georgetown Independent School District is thrilled to announce the successful passage of the school bond election held on May 4. With the resounding support of the community, voters approved a $649.5 million bond package to address critical needs in our district, ensuring a bright future for our students. Dr. Devin Padavil, Superintendent of Schools for Georgetown ISD, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the community for their unwavering support.
“The passage of all four propositions of the 2024 Bond is a testament to our community’s commitment to our students’ success,” said Superintendent Devin Padavil. “With this crucial funding, we are well-positioned to accommodate the growth of our district and provide our students with resources to support their growth and achievement.”
The bond package is comprised of four propositions, each addressing key areas essential for the district’s growth and development and the update of aging facilities:
Proposition A: 70% of voters approved Prop A for the construction of a new high school, new middle school, a new elementary school, and renovation of the old Benold Middle School to become a new Frost Elementary, along with the renovation and expansion of athletic and fine arts classrooms. It also includes upgrades to safety and security infrastructure, the purchase of new buses, priority maintenance and repairs, and land acquisition for future growth.
Proposition B: Funds from this proposition will be allocated to update technology infrastructure, and acquire new equipment to support growth and replace outdated equipment. 67% of voters approved Prop B.
Proposition C: Proposition C was approved by 63% of voters and will enhance fine arts facilities throughout the district. It includes the construction of a performing arts facility at East View High School, updates to equipment and uniforms, and addresses aging conditions at the Klett Performing Arts facility and Black Box Theater at Georgetown High School.
Proposition D: Approved by 61% of voters, Prop D will repair the track at Georgetown High School and renovate and expand the field house and locker room at East View High School.
Committed to openness and transparency throughout the bond information campaign process, Dr. Padavil met with community, business, and civic leaders as well as held a series of community meetings to provide valuable insights into the critical needs of the district and outlined the transformative impact that the bond initiative would have on Georgetown ISD’s students and community as a whole.
“Ultimately, this is the community’s bond,” said Padavil. “Many community members, including our Citizens Advisory Committee, provided valuable feedback to ensure that the projects presented to voters not only address needs that impact student learning, growth, and progress while reflecting our community’s voice.”
With the successful passage of all four propositions of Bond 2024, Georgetown ISD looks forward to embarking on the development of approved projects including project timelines and designs that will enhance the educational experience for all students and ensure a thriving future for our community. Construction on new facilities could begin as soon as this fall with new schools opening in 2-4 years.
