A Tuna Christmas will lift your spirits with its hilarious commentary and satire of small town, southern life.
Georgetown Palace Theatre will be performing A Tuna Christmas, written by Ed Howard, Joe Sears, and Jaston Williams starting November 27th and running through Dec 20th. The play is a hilarious commentary and satire of small town, Southern life and attitudes. Kirk Kelso and Rick Felkins play all twenty zany characters, with twice as many costume changes, made possible by our outstanding Palace Ninjas.
The plot centers around the annual Christmas yard decorating contest and a mysterious vandel, known as the “Christmas phantom” who has residents up in arms about who it might be. Some of the crazy residents in Tuna, Texas, include Vera Carp, who leads the “Smut-Snatchers of the New Order.” Vera’s latest crusade is to eliminate inappropriate lyrics from A Silent Night in the line “Round ‘yon virgin” which she hears as “Round young virgins.”
Didi Snively is the camouflage-wearing owner of Didi’s Used Weapons, whose tagline is, “If we can’t kill it, it’s immortal.” Throughout the play, local radio personalities, Arless Struvie and Thurston Wheelis keep the story line moving with news and gossip. Actors Kelso and Felkins change characters and costumes throughout the play, with some costume changes being as short as ten seconds.
The production will be indoors with increased safety protocols. Capacity is limited 25%, every other row will be left empty, and there will be 2 empty seats between every group from a different household. Consistent with ASHRAE recommendations, we have installed MERV 13 filters and increased our outdoor air intake to allow for a complete replacement of air every thirty minutes within the theatre.
Other safety processes include, but are not limited to: temperature checks at the door, masks required at all times, hand-sanitizer for every patron, frequent sanitizing of all surfaces, staggered arrival and dismissal and social distancing throughout the building. A full list of updated protocols can be found here: http://www.georgetownpalace.com/indoor-safety-protocols/
Tickets will be $34 for adults, $32 for seniors, students and military. Tickets can be purchased at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?ticketing=gpt. A Tuna Christmas is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
