Lumino Vision is open in Georgetown!
Owned and operated by long-term Georgetown residents and couple Dr. Jennifer Wood and Gonzalo Banuelos, the business is located at 1500 Rivery Blvd. Suite 2005 in Georgetown, and is a full modality optometry practice with a specialization in low vision and low vision rehabilitation.
“We offer a wide range of frames, lenses and contacts, as well as low vision devices,” the couple told Hello Georgetown. “We have the latest technology in the eye care industry and Dr. Wood personally spends up to an hour with each patient, one and a half hours with low vision patients. She provides care for patients of all ages and enjoys getting to build relationships with families.”
Dr. Wood has worked an optometrist for over 20 years and with a variety of patients.
“From the returning soldier with traumatic eye or brain injuries, to the 2nd grader having a hard time reading the board, Dr. Wood has helped thousands of people live better lives with the vision they have,” the couple said.
Throughout her experience, the couple said said Dr. Wood noticed a problem in her efforts to provide care to patients that she wanted to overcome through Lumino Vision.
“The insurance industry was hindering her ability to provide the best quality care for her patients,” the couple said. “To maximize profits, optometry practices were booking ever shorter consults with the doctor. Throughput was more important than quality of care. It wasn’t long then that she started to envision a better way to serve her patients. She wanted to run a practice where her patients got what they needed from their consultation. She wanted to build a practice where empathy, dignity and quality were values that were lived and not just lofty aspirations. For this, Lumino Vision was born.”
