June 25th, 2019 – We understand that Govenor Abbott has signed a bill into law that prohibits any restrictions on restaurants that want to allow dogs on their patios. The bill was signed into law on June 4th and will go into effect on September 1st, 2019.
Allowing Dogs on Patios will be completely up to the restaurants. Dogs are still not allowed inside the restaurants.

El Charrito, on Austin, allows dogs on their patio.

I’m confused. Some of the places listed above do not have a patio area. How can they be dog friendly?
Hi Kristi, good question. We actually personally called every one on the list and they said they have an outdoor space where someone could eat and bring their pooch. If you are unsure you might call ahead, if you find out something different than what we have published on a specific business, please let us know and we will call them again or go by and check it out. Thank you!
Simmer down allows dogs on patio.
Thank you! I’ll get it added!
Walburg restaurant does not permit pets on patio. Their FAQ explicitly states “We do not allow pets in our restaurant or biergarten”. We went there and were told “no”, in no uncertain terms. If you called them and they said “yes”, they may mean you could sit in the street, but you definitely cannot have your pet on the patio.
Hi Colin, We called the Walburg German Restaurant in response to your comment, and we got the same answer as you. They did say their outdoor area isn’t open at this time (March 17, 2018). But they said that when they do open the Biergarten, they will not allow dogs because they had an issue last year. Thanks for bringing that to our attention! We have updated our page. And thanks for reading.
What about BB’s?
I don’t think Hat Creek allows dogs, we asked
Hi SE, I have called the corporate office and the local Georgetown store and both of them have assured me that they do allow dogs on their patio, with a leash. Thanks for reading!

Thank you Donna, I’ll add Dos Salsas to the list. ~Anne
Cotton Patch Cafe located in Wolf Ranch allows dogs on their patio.
Thank you Ron, we have added Cotton Patch to our page. Thanks for reading, Anne
I responded a while ago regarding this same issue. Unfortunately, my comment was never addressed by anyone so I thought I would send it again. I am not the only person with this issue, there are many others who find it inappropriate to bring animals to public eateries and shopping areas.
It would be nice if everyone could sit in an outdoor patio. But, there are many of us who cannot due to life threatening allergies to dogs as well as other animals.
It is also very disturbing when a person with these allergies goes to a grocery store to shop and watches a pet dog that has been brought into the store urinate on the floor while in the grocery cart…..Gross!
I have been to stores (Hobby Lobby, Walmart, DSW Shoes, Old Navy, H.E.B., TJMaxx, and Home Depot) where I have had to actually leave the store due to the pet population. I wonder how much money those animals spent in those stores compared to what I would have.
Seems that the actual pet owners of service dogs are much more aware of someone else’s issues as I have been in several stores where “a REAL service dog” owner has gone to the back of the store in order for me to get checked out before bringing their service dog to the front checkout area. This was very much noted and appreciated. I understand the need for service dogs and will make every effort in my power to accommodate them but I don’t understand why it is important for pet owners to bring their non-service pets to eating establishments. Since I have been allergic to animals that are known to have dander for the past 35 years, the pets that I had, while raising my children, were reptiles. We had snakes, Chinese Water Dragons, Piranhas, and Alligators. I wonder how many people would be left in the grocery store or any store if I were to walk in with my 6 foot boa wrapped around my neck. It is, after all, my pet.
I’ve also called ahead to one of the establishments on your list and asked if there were animals allowed in the restaurant and was emphatically told “no”. This was not the case. Due to the “no” response, a dozen of us decided to have dinner there. Once we sat down and ordered, the nightly entertainment came in with his dog who sat next to his chair as he played his music. Unfortunately, I had to leave the restaurant immediately which in turn caused our group to eat quickly so I didn’t have to stand alone on the sidewalk waiting for everyone to finish their meal.
I grew up with dogs. My allergy did not come about until later in life.
I would just appreciate it if pet owners would take into account those of us who have allergies and refrain from having their pets in public establishments. Perhaps if these pet owners had to be hospitalized because they couldn’t breathe, or take on the cost of having to have medical attention due to this allergy they would be more considerate.
Hi Linda, I have approved your comment. Please don’t be offended if we don’t address the issue for you. We are just reporting the information and don’t have any more influence on what our city does than you do. Thanks for reading, Anne
Zoes allows pets outside on patio. 🙂
