Anne and I were driving around town last week and found this sign on the door for a new restaurant called Simmer Down Cafe. It is located where BB’s Home Cooking used to be at 4701 Williams Drive, Building 1 Georgetown, Texas. Map below.
We weren’t able to find a website or Facebook page for them but the sign on the door says they are planning to open in February 2017. See below for update.
It seems that BB’s Home Cooking is moving to a new location but they’ve already closed the old location and moved all of the tables and chairs out.
We have heard rumors that BB’s Home Cooking will be located in The Summit at Rivery Park next to the Sheraton Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center but have not been able to confirm that yet.
Update as of Wednesday, May 10, 2017
Simmer Down Cafe has new hours of operation.
The sign on their door now says the following:
Sunday: 9am to 2pm Brunch
Tuesday: 11am to 8pm
Wednesday: 11am to 8pm
Thursday: 9am to 8pm
Friday: 9am to 8pm
Saturday: 9am to 8pm
Update as of March 9, 2017
Simmer Down Cafe is now open for Breakfast and Lunch!
Anne and I stopped by today for lunch and all things considered the food was very good. It was their first day so there are a few kinks that still need to be worked out but everyone was kind and courteous and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time and they were very good portion sizes.
I got the Dinner portion of their Chicken Fried Steak with Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes (pictured to the left) and Anne got a side salad and french fries.
You can tell that the mashed potatoes were made from scratch and the gravy had a very delicious flavor, perfectly seasoned. We will definitely be back.
There were about 20 guests in the restaurant when we were there and they were winding down their day. For now Simmer Down Cafe is open from 8am until 2pm Tuesday through Sunday. Sometime soon they will be staying open for Dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Update as of January 27, 2017
We heard from one of our readers that BB’s Home Cooking is moving to The Summit at Rivery Park. The build-out is just taking longer than expected. They were not able to extend their lease at the old location, which is the reason they are closed, but only temporarily.
We also heard from the same person that the new owner of Simmer Down Cafe, Chris Marino, had a restaurant many years ago and has been wanting to open one here for a long time. We also heard that he cooked at BB’s Home Cooking as well.
Update as of February 14, 2017
Anne and I stopped by the Simmer Down Cafe today and were able to talk with the new owner, Chris Marino, and his right-hand man, Eric Golf. They both cooked together when the restaurant was BB’s Home Cooking.
Simmer Down will also be serving home cooking like Meatloaf, Chicken Fried Steak, a Texas staple, Hamburgers and more. There will also be daily specials throughout the week.
Chris told us that they are expecting to open sometime around the 1st of March.
Update as of March 6, 2017
Simmer Down is just waiting on a few inspections in order to open for business. Word is that they should be opening later this week.
We’re looking forward to eating there when they open.
We’ll continue to update this post as we learn more.
