The Seasons Are Changing Hello Georgetown! Another wonderful week in our community! Fall is definitely in the air as the mornings get cooler and cooler. I don't know about you, but I'm excited … Read More...
A new food truck off Shell Road and TX-195 is becoming quite a destination for BBQ and meat lovers in Georgetown.
Day after day, Chris Rodriguez, owner & Pit Master of Tejano Cookers BBQ and Catering Company, wakes up in the earliest hours of the morning to start smoking and preparing his specialty meats. By opening time, lines have formed as people hungrily and eagerly await breakfast tacos.
“We decided since we were already up and cooking at 3:00am, why not try selling some breakfast tacos and it has worked out perfectly,” Rodriguez said.
Making and selling breakfast tacos were kind of a last minute, fluke decision, Rodriguez told Hello Georgetown, and they still aren’t the main dish Tejano Cookers sell, but people love the flavors of good Tejano Cookers BBQ wrapped in a fluffy tortilla early in the morning.
By mid-morning, people are coming for more and there’s plenty of options at Tejano Cookers. With over two decades of BBQ experience both in catering and competitions, Rodriguez knows what it takes to make a great meal. But, when COVID-19 hit this year, Rodriguez joined many individuals who decided to pivot their businesses.
“It is my passion to BBQ from family cookouts to now being able to provide my customers with amazing food,” Rodriguez said. “It’s always been my dream to open a BBQ restaurant of some sort, and with COVID-19 going on we decided why not a use our competition trailer and turn it into a food truck stand and sell our BBQ that so many had asked for.”
Within three months, Tejano Cookers has already made quite the impression on the community. Often, they sell out of product before the end of the day, and it’s not uncommon to see people line up for their bite of BBQ.
“We have been blessed with an amazing response from regular daily returning customers to new ones that have been referred to try our BBQ,” Rodriguez said. “In the short 3 months that we have been opened we were excited to be nominated Best BBQ in Georgetown. So, that alone has been a great accomplishment.”
And for anyone who hasn’t tried Tejano Cookers yet or for someone who wants to try a crowd, Rodriguez has a few recommendations.
“We sell a lot of CJ’s Big Boy Sandwich, Tejano Style Frito Pie & our 2 Meat Plate,” Rodriguez said. “Our recommendation would be the CJ’s Big Boy Sandwich, you get to have the sliced smoked brisket and sausage in one sandwich.”
