Memorial Day weekend is here and with it, the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by so many in the name of freedom.
This weekend, there are a couple of events going on including a car parade to honor our fallen heroes and an appreciation BBQ by Heroes Night Out for veterans and their families. You can get details on these events in our Memorial Day Guide below.
We have lots of new information on businesses coming or expanding in Georgetown! From Pupology moving to a new location to a brand new ride coming to Inner Space Cavern, and more! You can read all about it in this week’s newsletter.
In other news, eight local nonprofits received grants from the Seeds of Strength organization this past week, and a new mural is going to be coming to Downtown Georgetown thanks to Georgetown High School students.

Three Georgetown Pools to Open Memorial Day Weekend
Several Georgetown pools are gearing up to open for the season starting Memorial Day weekend.
Pupology Moving to New Location in Georgetown
Currently located at 4230 Williams Drive, Pupology will closing Memorial Day weekend to move into their new location immediately next store at 4236 Williams Drive, former location of The Artisans Workbench.
UPDATE: Goodfolks Diner Coming to Georgetown!
We have a little more information about the new diner coming to Georgetown! According to Visit Georgetown, Goodfolks Diner will be a Southern-style eatery.
Alta Austin Avenue Apartments Coming to Georgetown!
The apartment complex, located at 2601 North Austin Avenue, will feature 312 apartment homes and best-in-class amenities, Wood Partners said.
Michael Dyer DMD Moving to New Location in Georgetown!
The dental team told Hello Georgetown the facility is being built specifically with patient care in mind and will include the latest technology available in dentistry.
Inner Space Cavern to Open New Zip Ride!
The Sabertooth is a tandem zip ride that lifts guests up 130 feet in the air, allows them to take in a beautiful view of the Texas Hill Country and then zips them back at just over 30 miles an hour.
Seeds of Strength Awards Over $184,000 in Grants to Local Nonprofits
In their annual grant awards meeting on Monday, May 24, the organization awarded grants to eight nonprofits.
Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to Conduct Memorial Day DWI Initiative
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit to conduct a three-day DWI initiative starting on May 28th and ending on May 30th. The initiative will consist of several units participating in high visibility patrol in areas that experience high volumes of crashes and impaired driving.
City of Georgetown Memorial Day Closings
City of Georgetown offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday.
County Offices Closed for Memorial Day
Williamson County offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2021, in observance of Memorial Day. The Commissioners Court meeting is canceled Tuesday, June 1, but all departments will resume their regular hours on Tuesday.
Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter Offering Free Adoptions with Appointment
The WCRAS is encouraging those who wish to adopt to make an appointment to meet their new furry friend instead of showing up to the shelter as a walk-in. As an incentive, the WCRAS will be offering free adoptions for medium and large adult dogs and adult cats if the customer made an appointment with the shelter.
City Hosts Riverbank Cleanup Event June 5
The City of Georgetown is hosting a riverbank cleanup event in San Gabriel Park on June 5. Volunteers can check-in for the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the white tent near the red poppy playground, which is located on the north end of the park. A safety briefing will be held at 8:55 a.m. The cleanup will be from 9-10 a.m.
Georgetown High School Students Install Mural Downtown
The Georgetown Arts and Culture Advisory Board selected sophomore Peyton Vega’s design from among 16 student designs submitted by art instructor Angela Morin.
St. David’s HealthCare facilities recognized by Healthgrades for Excellence in Patient Safety and Patient Experience
St. David’s HealthCare announced that all of its Austin hospitals – including St. David’s Georgetown – received a Healthgrades 2021 Patient Safety Excellence Award™.
WCRAS and Wilco Animal Control Unit Team Up to Help Reunite Lost Pets
The new door hangers are just one tool the organizations use to help owners reclaim their lost pets. The Sheriff’s Office says Animal Control also scans for microchips, searches the areas for owners, talks to nearby people, tries to follow the stray animal back home and look for lost pet notices posted online or in the area.
