As school gets back in session, we have some great tips from Huntington Learning Center in Georgetown about how parents can help their kids love learning and feel excited about a new school year. You can read the full article in this week’s newsletter.
In our business updates this week, Central Texas Miniature Golf is hosting a “Comedy at the Clubhouse” event on Thursday, August 26. The show will feature local comedians Luis Flandes, Alyssa Spatola and David Mascorro. Learn how you can purchase a ticket to the event below.
Also, Shake’s in Georgetown has rebranded to the Frozen Flamingo and they are expanding their menu!
In other news, registration is open for the annual K-9 Kerplunk event, and candidates have been set for the November special election for the City Council District 6 seat. The Georgetown Public Library has also returned to their normal operating hours and speaking of the library, the winners of the 13th annual Texas Society of Sculptors show have been named and all the exhibits are available to view at the library.
Plus, Southern Living Magazine has named Georgetown as one of “The South’s Best College Towns,” and All Things Wild Rehabilitation has welcomed a brand new education ambassador, Sam the Eastern Screech Owl.

Shake's in Georgetown Rebrands to Frozen Flamingo, Expands Menu
Faith Thomas, owner of the Frozen Flamingo, formerly Shake’s, told Hello Georgetown the company will no longer be a franchise under Shake’s and under it’s new branding as Frozen Flamingo, it will keep the same menu while also expanding what they offer.
Registration Open for Annual K-9 Kerplunk
“Join us for a pool paw-ty,” Georgetown Parks and Recreation wrote. “Georgetown Parks and Recreation invites dogs and their owners to K-9 Kerplunk – an end of summer swim party just for pups.”
Georgetown Public Library Returns to Normal Operating Hours
Starting Monday, August 16, the library’s hours will be the following:
Monday through Thursday: 9 AM to 8 PM
Friday: 9 AM to 6 PM
Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
Sunday: 12 PM – 5 PM
Candidates Set for Nov. 2 Election
The filing period for the special election on Nov. 2 for the District 6 City Council seat ended at 5 p.m. Aug. 16. Candidates include Jake French and Chere Heintzmann.
Winners of Texas Society of Sculptors 13th Annual Summer Show Named
The show in the Georgetown Public Library is available to view through September 17, 2021. The exhibit features 78 sculptures by 40 artists. The library with sponsorship from the City of Georgetown Arts and Culture Board is hosting the exhibit.
Georgetown Animal Shelter Joins Clear the Shelters Event
During the entire event, the shelter, 110 W.L. Walden Drive, will reduce and even waive adoption fees. Dogs age 7 months or older may be adopted for $15 (medium to large size breeds only), while cats age 7 months or older may be adopted free of charge.
Williamson Co. Juvenile Services Announces New Name/Brand for Education Programs
S.T.E.P., the Successful Transition Education Program, formerly known as the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), will celebrate with the community on Tuesday, August 24 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.
5th Annual Georgetown Field of Honor to include Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall
The emotional display includes the 80% replica of the Vietnam Wall and 72 additional panels that pay tribute to Veterans of all other wars and conflicts. AVTT is a nationally recognized, Veteran owned and operated small business. The tribute has been part of more than 300 events across the United States over the last 15 years.
All Things Wild Rehabilitation Welcomes New Education Ambassador
Education ambassadors, Rucker told Hello Georgetown, are animals that have permanent injuries that can’t be released back into the wild, and assist in animal education programs for schools, Scout troops and other groups.
Williamson County AgriLife Master Gardeners to Offer Free Fall Lawncare Workshop
“By taking a few preventive measures starting now and on into the fall, homeowners can prepare their lawns for winter dormancy and set turfgrasses up for a good spring and summer next year,” the organization wrote. “The event is free and open to the public. Please bring a lawn chair for your comfort. We hope to see you there!”
Southern Living Magazine Names Georgetown One of “The South’s Best College Towns”
Georgetown appeared on the magazine’s list, “The South’s Best College Towns” alongside several other college towns.
New Sod Installed at Historic County Courthouse
This installation will impact parking at the courthouse as some spaces will be temporarily closed. Additionally, a temporary fence will be installed around the newly-sodded areas to prevent damage while the grass is being established.
