Hello Georgetown!
April has arrived! I don’t know about you, but I am excited for all the fun events coming up, like the Red Poppy Festival! What are you most looking forward to this month?
There’s been lots going on in the community this week – first, let’s start off by giving a big hello to our newest business directory members: Blair Coffee Co., Texas 1st Choice Dumpster Rental and Lone Mountain Insurance LLC! You can learn more about each of these businesses and their services in their directory listings below.
In other business news, we’ve learned a community garden called The Vegetation Station will be coming to Georgetown, and coffee lovers can add some new spots to their routine. Blair Coffee Co. opened up this week, and we’ve learned The Human Bean will be coming to the community!
Get your calendars ready – the community has been invited to attend Family Nature Fest on April 9th at Garey Park, and the City of Georgetown will present their third State of the City online on April 13th.
Also, on April 24th, ‘Pillar of Salt’ Author Anna Salton Eisen will visit the Georgetown Public Library to speak about her book that examines the generational trauma of Holocaust survivors and their families. Details about each of these events can be found in this week’s newsletter.

We are a coffee shop operating out of a 1963 airstream trailer parked in front of the Catfish Parlour on Williams Drive! We sell a variety of specialty coffee drinks (our coffee is supplied by the incredible Silver Grizzly Espresso out of Longview) and will also sell a small variety of pastries from local Georgetown businesses.

The Human Bean Coming to Georgetown!
Owned and operated by Chevonne and Darren Johst, the business will be a specialty coffee drive-thru focused on specialty coffee items, espressos, granitas, smoothies, delicious snacks and more.
The Vegetation Station Coming to Georgetown!
The community garden is being spearheaded by Sooze and Leo Wolfe, who serve as the directors of the project, and Kenneth Witherspoon, who is the project specialist, and will serve local food pantries as well as the community at large.
Blair Coffee Co. Open in Georgetown!
Owned and operated by Jonathan and Lauren Blair, the business offers specialty coffee drinks, matcha, tea, local pastries and merchandise.
Master Gardener Plant Sale Scheduled for April 2
Mark your calendar for the 2022 Master Gardener Plant Sale to be held on Saturday, April 2. The sale will be held at the Georgetown Community Center in San Gabriel Park from 10:00am to 2:00pm or until the plants sell out.
Brazos River Authority Enters Drought Watch for Lake Georgetown
City of Georgetown water utility customers should not water lawns or landscapes during the heat of the day, from noon to 7 p.m. effective immediately. This prohibition reflects the City entering Phase I of its drought contingency plan, which is in response to the Brazos River Authority entering Stage 1 Drought Watch for Lake Georgetown.
The Key2Free Brings Hope and Healing
As The Key2Free continues it’s work to help survivors of human trafficking, it’s important to help the public better understand the myths that prevail and dispel those with truth to better arm communities, families and individuals.
City of Georgetown Presents Third State of the City Online
In the video presentation, which will premiere at noon on April 13, Mayor Josh Schroeder and City Manager David Morgan highlight significant events and major projects completed in 2021 and preview what’s to come in 2022.
Community Invited to Attend Family Nature Fest on April 9th
“Family Nature Fest focuses on connecting families with nature through a variety of activities, demonstrations and environmental education,” according to the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department. “Garey Park entry fees are required, and some of the activities may include a fee.”
City Splash Pads Open April 1, San Jose Splash Pad Opening Delayed
“Beginning Friday, April 1, the splash pads at Downtown Georgetown and Rabbit Hill Park will be open from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily,” according to the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department. “The splash pads will remain open through Sept. 30. Due to mechanical issues, the San Jose Park splash pad opening is delayed until further notice. The splash pad at Garey Park will also open on April 1 and will remain open daily during park hours through October 31. The splash pad closes 30 minutes prior to park closing.”
‘Pillar of Salt’ Author Visit to Georgetown Public Library April 24
The Georgetown Public Library is hosting an author talk and book signing for “Pillar of Salt: A Daughter’s Life in the Shadow of the Holocaust” by author Anna Salton Eisen and coauthored with her son, Aaron Eisen. This free event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in the Hewlett Room of the library, 402 W. Eighth St.
Georgetown Approves Updated Hazard Mitigation Plan
The plan, which is updated every five years, aims to minimize, or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards, such as droughts floods, tornadoes, wildfires, and other major disasters. Hazard mitigation efforts include projects such as flood channel clearing, road and bridge design changes, property buy-outs, building code changes, or public alert systems.
Williamson County Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning Extended
The Williamson County Commissioners Court has extended an Order Declaring a Local State of Disaster for Williamson County. The Order prohibits outdoor burning in all of the unincorporated areas of Williamson County and smoking in and/or on Williamson County parks, preserves and trails due to dry vegetation, wind and imminent threat of severe damage. The order is in effect until it is canceled by the Commissioners Court or a burn ban order is issued. A burn ban order is on the agenda for Tuesday, April 5.
